Job Title: Business Development Manager – Medical Devices
Location: Mexico - Remote
Employment Type: Permanent/Indefinite
Role Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and results-driven Business Development Manager to lead medical device sales, commercialization, importation, and market development activities in Mexico. The ideal candidate will bring strong knowledge of the Mexican healthcare and medical device market, an established network within the healthcare ecosystem, and the ability to drive product and business growth.
The successful candidate will also support Taevas’ local operations as a designated company representative, as applicable, and work closely with regulatory, legal, quality, customs, logistics, and commercial teams to support compliance with applicable Mexican requirements.
The role will have significant responsibility for supporting the importation and commercialization of medical devices in Mexico, including coordination of Importer of Record (IOR) activities, customs clearance, import documentation, and end-to-end import operations.
Key Regulatory Environment: Experience working with COFEPRIS and familiarity with Mexican medical device registration, importation, sanitary authorization, and commercialization requirements is strongly preferred. COFEPRIS regulates medical devices in Mexico and maintains processes for sanitary registrations and import permits.
Key Responsibilities
1. Business Development & Commercialization
- Develop and execute business development and commercialization strategies for Taevas’ medical devices in Mexico.
- Identify target markets, customer segments, strategic accounts, and new business opportunities.
- Build and maintain relationships with hospitals, clinics, rehabilitation centers, healthcare institutions, distributors, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Develop and manage distributor and institutional partnerships across Mexico.
- Conduct product demonstrations and training for healthcare professionals, distributors, and customers.
- Engage with healthcare professionals and key opinion leaders to support appropriate product positioning and market development.
- Conduct competitor analysis and market research to identify commercial opportunities.
- Manage the sales pipeline and achieve agreed sales targets.
- Track sales performance, pipeline development, customer feedback, market trends, and competitive intelligence.
- Prepare regular business development forecasts and performance reports.
2. Importation, IOR & Customs
- Manage and coordinate Importer of Record (IOR) activities for medical device imports into Mexico.
- Oversee end-to-end import operations,
including shipment coordination, documentation, customs clearance, and final delivery.
- Coordinate with customs brokers, freight forwarders, distributors, logistics providers, and other external partners.
- Review and coordinate import documentation, including commercial invoices, packing lists, permits, certificates, and customs documentation.
- Support tariff classification and assessment of applicable import requirements.
- Monitor shipments through customs clearance and proactively resolve documentation issues, delays, and other import-related challenges.
- Maintain accurate records of import and customs activities.
- Ensure import operations are conducted in accordance with applicable Mexican customs, trade, and healthcare requirements.
3. Regulatory & Compliance
- Support the commercialization of medical devices in accordance with applicable Mexican regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with regulatory and quality teams on COFEPRIS registrations, permits, authorizations, and related activities, as applicable.
- Support preparation and maintenance of documentation required for regulatory submissions and product registrations.
- Coordinate with regulatory consultants and other external service providers when required.
- Monitor applicable regulatory requirements and communicate relevant changes to internal stakeholders.
- Support ongoing compliance and post-market activities associated with Taevas’ products in Mexico.
4. Legal & Local Representation
- Act as or support the company’s designated local representative in Mexico, as applicable to Taevas’ corporate and regulatory structure.
- Represent or support the company in interactions with relevant governmental, regulatory, commercial, and business stakeholders when appropriately authorized.
- Coordinate with legal and regulatory teams to ensure local representation requirements are properly addressed.
- Support company documentation, applications, and regulatory processes within the scope of assigned authority.
- Ensure activities are conducted in accordance with applicable Mexican laws, regulations, and company policies.
5. Cross-functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with regulatory, quality, marketing, sales, legal, finance, supply chain, and operations teams.
- Coordinate with distributors, customs brokers, logistics providers, regulatory consultants, and other external partners.
- Provide market and commercial intelligence to support business strategy and decision-making.
- Support customer and distributor relationships throughout the product lifecycle.
- Contribute to process improvement and operational efficiency initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Biomedical Engineering, Healthcare, Regulatory Affairs, Supply Chain, International Trade,
or a related field.
- Additional qualifications in Business Development, Medical Devices, Regulatory Affairs, International Trade, or Supply Chain are an advantage.
- Appropriate legal authorization to work in Mexico.
Professional Experience
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in medical device sales, business development, commercialization, healthcare, importation, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of the Mexican healthcare and medical device market.
- Demonstrated experience developing commercial opportunities and managing strategic healthcare accounts.
- Experience working with distributors and institutional healthcare customers.
Regulatory, Import & Customs Experience
- Hands-on experience with Importer of Record (IOR), importation, customs clearance, and end-to-end import operations in Mexico.
- Experience coordinating with customs brokers, freight forwarders, logistics providers, and distributors.
- Working knowledge of Mexican medical device regulatory requirements and COFEPRIS processes.
- Familiarity with medical device registration, sanitary requirements, import permits, and commercialization processes.
- Familiarity with VUCEM (Ventanilla Única de Comercio Exterior Mexicana) and electronic import processes is preferred.
- Knowledge of tariff classification and Mexican customs requirements is preferred.
Technical & Commercial Skills
- Strong business development, negotiation, presentation, and account management skills.
- Ability to develop market-entry strategies, commercial plans, and sales forecasts.
- Strong understanding of medical device distribution and commercialization models.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM/business reporting tools.
- Ability to work effectively across regulatory, commercial, supply chain, legal, and operational functions.
