essential duties and responsibilities

- promote a culture of safety and compliance throughout the organization by fostering an environment where safety is prioritized and integrated into daily operations.
- develop and implement functional safety concepts and requirements for autonomous vehicle control systems.
- conduct safety analysis, including hazard and risk assessment (hara), systems theoretic process analysis (stpa), failure mode and effects analysis (fmea), and fault tree analysis (fta).
- collaborate with hardware and software engineering teams to ensure safety requirements are integrated into the design and development process.
- review safety verification and validation activities, including safety testing and simulation.
- ensure compliance with relevant safety standards (e.g., iso 26262, iec 61508) and regulatory requirements.
- prepare and maintain safety documentation, including safety plans, safety cases, and safety reports.
- participate in safety audits and assessments, both internal and external.
- provide technical guidance and support to project teams on functional safety matters.
- stay updated with the latest advancements in functional safety and autonomous vehicle technologies.

essential education, work experience, job skills

education:





- bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, engineering, science, or a related field. Master’s preferred.
- relevant certifications such as certified functional safety expert (cfse), certified functional safety professional (cfsp), automotive functional safety professional (afsp), functional safety engineer or similar credentials are highly preferred

experience:

- 10+ years of experience in functional safety engineering, preferably in industries such as robotics, automotive, heavy machinery, or agricultural equipment.
- proven track record of working on safety-critical systems and projects.
- specific experience with standards like ul 4600, iso 26262, iso 13849, iso 25119, iec 61508, or other industry specific safety standards and machinery directives.

- in-depth understanding of functional safety standards and regulations that lead to safety certified products.
- strong skills in identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks associated with functional safety like hara, stpa, fmea, and fta.
