About the Role

We are seeking a motivated Design Release Engineer (DRE) to lead the design, release, and integration of automotive closure systems. In this role, you will oversee both metallic structural assemblies (doors, hoods, liftgates, hinges, and latches) and associated non-metallic trim/sealing components.

This is a high-flexibility remote position offering hands-on engineering involvement, root-cause troubleshooting, and cross-functional collaboration across key manufacturing and assembly hubs in Mexico.

Key Responsibilities

- Metallic & Sheet Metal Design: Lead CAD packaging, structural design, and tolerance analysis for metallic closure panels, stampings, hinges, latches, and reinforcements.
- Component Release & PLM: Manage Bill of Materials (BOM) structures, engineering changes, and release schedules through Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
- Supplier & DFM Collaboration: Partner with Tier-1/2 metal stamping, tooling, and plastic suppliers to review Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
- Cross-Functional Integration: Coordinate with Body-in-White (BIW), Stamping, Paint, and General Assembly teams to resolve fit-and-finish, hem-flange, and gap/flushness issues.
- Validation & Testing: Support Design Verification Plans & Reports (DVP&R;)



for structural stiffness, durability, latch kinematics, and weather tightness.
- Travel Requirements: Visit customer assembly plants and supplier facilities in Toluca, Saltillo, or Mexico City for build support, trial runs, and root-cause analysis (8D, 5-Why).

Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Automotive, or Materials Engineering.
- Experience: 3+ years of experience in 3D CAD design for mechanical, structural, or automotive components.
- Software: Proficiency in CATIA V5/V6, Siemens NX, or SolidWorks.
- Technical Skills: Basic understanding of sheet metal forming, metal joining processes (spot welding, clinching, structural adhesives), GD&T;, and tolerance stack-up analysis.
- Language: Conversational to intermediate English (technical reading/writing required).

Preferred / Transferable Skills (Nice-to-Have)
- Experience with sheet metal stamping/hem-flanging or plastic injection molding and tooling constraints.
- Previous exposure to closure commodities (side doors, hoods, tailgates, hinges, latches, weatherstrips, or interior trim panels).
- Familiarity with automotive quality tools (DFMEA, APQP, PPAP).
