Founding Accountant — Tax & Product (MX - USA)

Cherry (trycherry.ai) is building AI-powered accounting and tax for founders. This role owns the books, the filings, and the judgment that turns the mess of SAT, CFDI, ISR, and IVA into product.

About the role

We're looking for an ambitious accountant who wants more than a conventional accounting career. Here, you'll help build the system that makes accounting and taxes work, instead of just operating inside someone else's process. You'll work directly with the founders, our first customers, and the product and engineering teams to turn real accounting judgment into software that serves every customer who comes after.

What you'll do

- Own bookkeeping, reconciliations, month-end closes, and the compliance calendar for Cherry's customers in Mexico.
- File returns and handle entity-level requirements: ISR, IVA, DIOT, CFDI, IMSS and payroll where applicable, SAT, and e.firma.
- Support U.S. entity obligations when a customer has them (Delaware franchise tax, 1099s, Form 5472, and nexus issues).
- Partner with product and engineering to turn accounting rules into product logic: categorization, double-entry treatment, and exception handling.
- Review real, messy cases (Stripe payouts, intercompany transfers, commingled personal and business expenses, invoicing) and improve the system every week.
- Guide early customers through onboarding and their questions, and feed those learnings back into the product.




- Help build Cherry's accounting policies, quality controls, and review process.

How we work You'll have support and clear escalation paths for complex technical issues. We don't expect you to know everything on day one; we do expect rigor, sound judgment, and a strong drive to learn fast.

What we're looking for

- 2–4 years of hands-on experience in both Mexican and U.S. accounting and/or tax.
- Bookkeeping, reconciliations, closes, filings, or client-account support.
- Interest in startups, automation, and software.
- Detail + judgment about when to ask for help.
- Clear writing. Comfort with ambiguity.
- Cédula / CPC welcome, not required.
- CFDI, SAT, ISR/IVA, foreign-owned or US/Delaware parent, Stripe, intercompany.
- English: Intermediate level, or able to communicate with customers both verbally and in writing.
