IBM Power Systems Engineer

Pellera Technologies is seeking an experienced IBM Power Systems Engineer to join our Managed Services team. This role is responsible for administering, supporting, monitoring, and optimizing IBM Power Systems environments, including HMC, VIOS, LPARs, SAN connectivity, virtualization technologies, and enterprise infrastructure platforms.

Key Responsibilities

- Ensure the operational integrity, availability, and security of IBM Power Systems infrastructure.

- Install, configure, maintain, and upgrade Virtual I/O Servers (VIOS).

- Administer physical and virtual HMC environments.

- Create, modify, and maintain LPARs using GUI and CLI tools.

- Perform system firmware maintenance and coordinate infrastructure updates.

- Implement and support IBM Power virtualization technologies.

- Configure and manage virtual storage and networking components.

- Support SAN integration, zoning, masking, and storage connectivity.

- Analyze system performance and recommend improvements.

- Conduct root cause analysis and troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues.

- Support Live Partition Mobility (LPM) and Active Memory Sharing.

- Develop and maintain technical documentation, procedures, and runbooks.

- Create automation scripts using Bash or Korn Shell.

- Support HMC CLI administration and automation initiatives.

- Participate in major incident resolution and customer escalations.





- Participate in a rotating 24x7 on-call support schedule.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.

- 5+ years of experience supporting IBM Power Systems environments.

- Hands-on experience with HMC administration and LPAR management.

- Strong knowledge of VIOS administration and troubleshooting.

- Experience supporting Power8, Power9, and Power10 platforms.

- Experience with virtualization technologies, including Shared Processor Pools, Dynamic LPAR Operations, and Live Partition Mobility.

- Experience with SAN technologies, NPIV, MPIO, zoning, and storage integration.

- Knowledge of virtual networking technologies and network troubleshooting.

- Experience with disaster recovery environments.

- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.

- Experience working in ITIL-based support environments.

- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

- IBM Power Systems certifications.

- Experience with infrastructure automation using Bash or Korn Shell.

- Familiarity with PowerVC and REST APIs.

- Experience with firmware lifecycle management and vendor support processes.

- Security and compliance experience, including SOC, PCI-DSS, SOX, or ISO 27001.
