WE’RE HIRING: PART-TIME JUNIOR EDITORIAL DESIGNER

Your Legacy Your Story is looking for a Junior Editorial Designer to join our creative team on a part-time basis.

We specialize in transforming family histories, biographies, genealogical research, photographs, and archival materials into professionally designed books and printed pieces. We are looking for someone with a strong eye for editorial layout, typography, photography, and visual storytelling who is comfortable working within established styles while also bringing thoughtful design solutions to each project.

This is an editorial design position, with a primary focus on books and print projects.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

- Design and format interior book pages using Adobe InDesign
- Create and refine book covers, title pages, chapter openers, and other editorial elements
- Work with photographs, historical documents, scans, and archival materials
- Edit, enhance, and prepare images in Adobe Photoshop
- Create or modify supporting graphics in Adobe Illustrator when needed
- Build layouts that balance text, photographs, captions, and other visual elements
- Follow established templates and visual styles while maintaining consistency throughout a book
- Make revisions based on Creative Director and client feedback
- Prepare high-resolution and print-ready files
- Review your own work for alignment, spacing, typography, image quality, and overall consistency before submitting it for review
- Keep project files organized and follow established file-naming and production workflows
- Manage assigned projects and revisions while meeting established deadlines

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- Junior-level designer with a strong interest in editorial and book design
- Good understanding of typography, hierarchy, grids, spacing, composition, and page layout
- Proficiency in Adobe InDesign and Photoshop
- Working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator
- Strong attention to detail
- Comfortable working with text-heavy and photo-heavy layouts




- Able to follow detailed instructions and existing design systems
- Able to maintain consistency across large, multi-page projects
- Organized and dependable with deadlines
- Comfortable receiving feedback and making revisions
- Good communication skills in a remote work environment
- Ability to work independently once a project and its expectations have been established

Previous experience with books, magazines, catalogs, publications, yearbooks, or other multi-page editorial projects is preferred.

ABOUT OUR WORK

Our projects are highly personal and often include decades of family history, photographs, documents, genealogy, and memories. Because of this, attention to detail and respect for the original material are extremely important.

Our preservation and digitization team also has more than 15 years of experience working with photographs, slides, negatives, documents, film, videotapes, artwork, and archival collections for families, genealogical organizations, associations, institutions, and other large-scale preservation projects.

You will work directly under our Creative Director and collaborate with our production team on active client projects.

SCHEDULE

Part-time, remote position with flexible working hours.

We are flexible about when the work is completed, but reliability is essential. Designers must be able to communicate with the team, manage their assigned workload, and meet established project deadlines.

Applicants located in Tijuana, Rosarito, or surrounding areas are preferred, but we are open to candidates throughout Mexico.

COMPENSATION

MXN $10,000/month

Freelance position

This position has the potential to grow as the designer gains experience with our workflow and takes on additional responsibilities.
