Python - FastAPI Engineer

Location: Toluca, Mexico

Important Note

- Location is mandatory: Candidates must be based in or willing to work from Toluca, Mexico .
- This is a 100% onsite position .
- Candidates must be available to work 5 days per week from the HSBC office in Toluca .
- Remote or hybrid-only candidates will not be considered.
- Candidates with strong Spanish and English communication skills will have an added advantage.

Responsibilities

- Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable backend services using Python and FastAPI .
- Build RESTful APIs and service components following modular and clean architecture principles.
- Develop or support React-based frontend components when required.
- Implement business logic, integrations, authentication, validation, error handling, and data-access layers.
- Write clean, readable, reusable, and maintainable code.
- Create comprehensive unit, integration, API, and regression tests .
- Participate in code reviews and ensure adherence to engineering and secure-coding standards.
- Configure and maintain Git-based branching, pull request, build, testing, and deployment workflows.
- Integrate automated quality checks and testing into CI/CD pipelines .
- Troubleshoot defects, performance bottlenecks, production issues, and integration failures.
- Collaborate with architects, product owners, business analysts, QA engineers, DevOps engineers, and security specialists.
- Contribute to solution design, technical estimation, backlog refinement, and sprint planning.
- Take end-to-end ownership of assigned components from requirement clarification through deployment and production support.




- Create and maintain technical documentation for APIs, application components, dependencies, and operational procedures.

Required Qualifications

- 5–7 years of software development experience with strong hands-on expertise in Python.
- Practical experience designing and developing APIs using FastAPI .
- Full-stack development capability with Python backend and React frontend .
- Strong understanding of modular architecture, object-oriented programming, clean code, and software design principles.
- Strong experience designing and consuming REST APIs .
- Solid knowledge of unit testing, integration testing, mocking, test automation, and code-quality practices.
- Hands-on experience with Git and Git-based CI/CD workflows .
- Knowledge of authentication, authorization, API security, input validation, and exception handling.
- Strong debugging, structured problem-solving, and performance-optimization skills.
- Ability to independently own technical deliverables and collaborate effectively within Agile teams.
- Willingness and ability to work 100% onsite, 5 days a week, in Toluca, Mexico .

Nice-to-Have Skills

- Experience with asynchronous Python development and FastAPI dependency injection .
- Knowledge of React, TypeScript, or JavaScript .
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, Terraform, or serverless services .
- Familiarity with relational and NoSQL databases.
- Experience developing AI-enabled applications or integrating large language model services.
- Knowledge of observability, application metrics, distributed tracing, and structured logging.
- Professional working proficiency in Spanish and English .
