Retention Marketing Manager (Remote)
James Oro · Full-time · $2,500 to $5,000 USD/month · Pacific Time 9am-5pm
About James Oro
James Oro is a fast growing direct-to-consumer eyewear and jewelry brand, built in Los Angeles started in 2019. The team is small, so every hire has an outsized impact. We've built something people want to own more than one of, and we need someone to make repeat buying happen on purpose.
The role
We're hiring a Retention Marketing Manager to own email, SMS and lifecycle as the business grows and we expand product categories. Retention is the core of the job. You'll also help with other marketing work when it makes sense, so this suits someone who likes being hands-on across the business.
You'll report to the Head of Growth and work closely with our creative, CX and ops teams. You'll be working in our account from day one.
What you'll own
Klaviyo, end to end
- Flow architecture: welcome, browse and cart abandonment, post-purchase, win-back, replenishment, VIP and sunset
- Campaign calendar, from brief to send, with clean segmentation behind every send
- List health and deliverability: sender reputation, suppression, sunset policy, inbox placement
- A/B testing measured on placed-order rate and revenue per recipient, not opens
SMS on Postscript
- Flows, campaigns, list growth and popup strategy, run alongside email instead of as an afterthought
Retention strategy tied to revenue
- Repeat purchase rate, LTV, time to second order, and win-back of lapsed customers
- Cohort analysis so you know who's coming back, when and why
- Loyalty and referral programs: building, fixing or relaunching them
- Cross-sell across a catalog with lots of variants (frames by color and lens, jewelry by length and stone)
Other hats (willing and capable, not expert)
- Landing page and PDP copy
- Light CRO and test ideas
- Briefing creative for email, SMS and site
- Pulling reports and explaining the numbers to the team
What we're looking for
- 3+ years of hands-on retention or lifecycle marketing for ecommerce brands
- You've run retention at a brand doing $5M+ a year, in-house or through an agency. Agency experience is fine, but we'd like to see at least some time in-house at a brand
- You're in Klaviyo every day right now, not two years ago
- Hands-on experience with an SMS platform (Postscript, Attentive or similar)
- Shopify experience
- You think in cohorts and revenue, not "send more emails"
- You've owned projects end to end, including the results and what came after
- Professional English, written and spoken
- Able to work full-time, 9am to 5pm Pacific
Nice to have
- Fashion, apparel, accessories or jewelry brands with 50+ SKUs
- Loyalty or referral program builds
- Google Ads, Shopping or Merchant Center experience
- A real, specific example of how AI fits into your workflow today
What we offer
- $2,500 to $5,000 USD/month, depending on experience. The top of the range is for retention specialists who can also flex well into other marketing work
- 12 days PTO plus US holidays
- Remote-first, with more flexibility as trust builds
- High visibility in a small team, and a lot of room to grow
Hiring process
1. Intro screen
2. Interview with our Head of Growth
3. Interview with our Founder
How to apply Along with your resume, send us a few lines that answer these:
1. What's the largest brand you've run retention for (annual revenue), and what share of its revenue came from email and SMS?
2. What's one flow you built yourself (not inherited), and what did it drive?
3. What did you ship in Klaviyo in the last 30 days?
We read these first. Specific numbers beat percentages without a baseline.
