Staff Electrical Engineer – Form Energy (PCBA Design)

Overview

Form Energy is looking for a Staff Electrical Engineer to lead the full lifecycle design of PCBAs (Printed Circuit Board Assemblies) that support their battery management and energy storage systems. This is a hands-on hardware design role focused on taking products from concept through design, validation, manufacturing, and long-term support.

Key Responsibilities

- Own end-to-end PCBA development, including:
- Requirements definition
- Component selection
- Schematic capture
- PCB layout oversight
- Design release and manufacturing support
- Board bring-up and verification
- Sustaining engineering
- Design PCBAs for high-power, high-voltage, and safety-critical applications.
- Develop:
- DFMEA/CFMEA
- Electrical block diagrams
- Simulations and analyses
- Test plans
- 8D root cause investigations
- Work closely with:
- Systems Engineers
- Mechanical Engineers
- Firmware/Software Engineers
- Test & Validation Teams
- Troubleshoot and improve released hardware designs.
- Create technical documentation including architecture, test results, root-cause analyses, and design decisions.

Required Technical Background

Hardware Design

- Strong PCBA design experience using Altium (or similar ECAD software).
- Experience taking boards through the complete development cycle.

Power Electronics

Experience with:

- High-voltage and high-power designs
- AC/DC power systems
- SMPS power supplies
- LDOs
- Gate drivers and motor drivers

Embedded Hardware

Knowledge of:

- MCUs, MPUs, SOMs
- Sensors
- Data acquisition systems (ADC, DAC, I/O)

Communication Protocols

- CAN-FD
- Ethernet
- isoSPI
- SPI
- UART
- I2C
- JTAG

Reliability & Safety

- DFMEA / CFMEA
- High-reliability design practices




- Safety-critical systems
- Compliance testing

Preferred Experience

- Battery Management Systems (BMS)

Regulatory / Standards Experience
