PowerSonic Industries is an established North American manufacturer headquartered in Bolton, Ontario, with operations across Canada, the United States, and Mexico. We design and build engineered electrical assemblies and power solutions for industrial OEM customers across automotive, transportation, material handling, and specialty equipment markets. We are growing our Mexico engineering team to support new product launches, value engineering programs, and expanded customer business.
Position Summary
We are seeking a Wire Harness Value Engineer based in Monterrey, Mexico, working remotely from home, with at least three years of hands-on experience. This is a cost-focused engineering role: in addition to supporting harness design and launch, you will lead Value Engineering (VE) initiatives, identify and qualify alternate components for BOM substitution, and partner directly with sourcing to drive material cost reduction without compromising fit, function, or quality. You will work closely with production, quality, purchasing, and our customers' engineering teams to ensure designs are manufacturable, cost-effective, and built to spec from the first prototype through serial production. Occasional travel to manufacturing facilities and supplier sites may be required.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Value Engineering (VE/VA) initiatives on existing and new harness programs — identify cost-reduction opportunities through component, material, process, and design changes, and quantify projected savings.
- Identify, evaluate, and qualify alternate components for BOM substitution (terminals,



connectors, wire, splices, protective coverings) and drive them through the engineering change and PPAP process.
- Partner directly with the sourcing and purchasing team on supplier selection, RFQ packages, should-cost analysis, and total-landed-cost evaluations for harness materials.
- Design wire harness and cable assemblies from customer requirements, schematics, and 3D vehicle/equipment data, including conductor sizing, connector selection, routing, splices, terminations, and protective coverings.
- Create and maintain harness drawings, BOMs, wire lists, and assembly documentation in CAD (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, Zuken E3, or equivalent).
- Develop and release engineering change notices (ECNs) and manage revision control through the PLM/ERP system.
- Partner with production and quality teams to design for manufacturability, build assembly aids and form boards, and resolve issues identified during prototype and pilot builds.
- Support tooling, fixture, and test-equipment specification for new programs (crimping, ultrasonic welding, continuity test, hi-pot).
- Lead first-article inspections and contribute to PPAP, APQP, and FMEA documentation for new programs.
- Act as the primary engineering point of contact for assigned customer programs — attend design reviews, respond to RFQs, and propose cost-down or quality improvement opportunities.




- Validate completed assemblies against electrical, mechanical, and environmental requirements, including IPC/WHMA-A-620 workmanship standards.
- Provide engineering support to the production floor remotely and during periodic on-site visits.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electromechanical, Mechatronics, or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience designing wire harnesses or cable assemblies in a manufacturing environment (automotive, commercial vehicle, industrial equipment, or similar).
- Demonstrated Value Engineering (VE/VA) experience — proven track record of delivering measurable cost-reduction projects on engineered products.
- Hands-on experience with BOM alternate-component substitution, including identifying replacement parts, validating fit/forM/Function, and managing the qualification and change process.
- Material sourcing experience — comfortable working with suppliers and the purchasing team on RFQs, supplier qualification, cost negotiation support, and second-source development for harness components and raw materials.
- Working knowledge of harness components: terminals, connectors, seals, conduit, braid, heat-shrink, splices, and grounding.
- Proficiency reading and producing electrical schematics, harness drawings, and wire lists.
- Hands-on CAD experience with at least one of: AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, Zuken E3.series, Mentor Capital, or comparable harness/electrical CAD.
- Familiarity with IPC/WHMA-A-620 and applicable industry standards.
- Solid communication skills in both Spanish and English (written and verbal) — you will work daily with customers and counterparts in Canada and the U.S.
