Accounting Manager

MStar Innovation is a FinTech operating in Mexico's financial sector, building scalable, technology-driven financial products within the automotive ecosystem.
We are looking for an Accounting Manager who combines strong technical accounting expertise with leadership, ownership, and a continuous-improvement mindset. This role will help build a more scalable, efficient, and technology-enabled Finance function.
The Role
As Accounting Manager, you will lead the day-to-day accounting operation and a team of 3–5 Accounting Analysts, ensuring accurate and timely financial information across MStar's portfolios and entities.
You will own the monthly close, accounting controls, financial reporting, and audit coordination, while partnering with Tax, Treasury, Operations, Legal, Technology, and Finance leadership.
Beyond execution, you will be expected to improve processes, leverage automation and technology, and build a high-performing accounting team.
What You’ll Do
Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Lead the end-to-end accounting cycle, including journal entries, reconciliations, AP, collections, payroll accounting, and portfolio accounting.
- Own the monthly close and ensure accurate, timely financial reporting.
- Review financial statements, reconciliations, management reports, and variance analyses.
- Ensure compliance with Mexican NIF and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Oversee accounting treatment of financial products, including interest income, portfolio provisioning, factoring, and commissions.
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of 3–5 Accounting Analysts.
- Set expectations, manage performance, and build technical capabilities.
- Ensure consistent delivery during close, audits, and regulatory deadlines.
- Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Controls, Compliance & Audit
- Strengthen internal controls and proactively identify accounting risks.
- Oversee accurate accounting and reconciliation of loan portfolio transactions.
- Ensure compliance with relevant SAT, CFDI, IVA, IMSS, INFONAVIT, ISN, and payroll tax processes.
- Coordinate day-to-day requirements with external auditors.
Process Improvement & Technology
- Lead automation and process improvement initiatives across accounting.
- Identify opportunities to leverage AI and digital accounting tools.
- Improve accounting policies, procedures, reconciliation frameworks, and close processes.
- Partner with Technology on ERP improvements, including Oracle, Contpaq, or equivalent platforms.
Business Partnership
- Partner with Tax, Treasury, Operations, Legal, and Technology on new products and transactions.
- Contribute to the accounting design and launch readiness of new financial products.
- Support Finance leadership with analysis and materials for senior stakeholders, investors, and regulators.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Public Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 8–12 years of progressive accounting experience, including 2–3+ years leading teams.
- Strong experience leading monthly close and financial reporting.
- Experience in financial services, FinTech, SOFOM, banking, or another regulated financial institution.
- Big Four or second-tier audit firm experience is strongly preferred.
- Experience working with external auditors and managing audit requirements.
- Strong knowledge of Mexican NIF; IFRS is a plus.
- Advanced Excel / Google Sheets skills; Power BI is a plus.
- Experience with Oracle, Contpaq, or equivalent ERP systems is a plus.
- Familiarity with automation or AI tools applied to accounting.
- Upper-intermediate English required; Advanced preferred.
