Mechanical Development Coordinator (R&D;)
Location : Apodaca, Nuevo León, Mexico (On-site)
Position Objective
Lead, manage, and coordinate the resources of the Mechanical Development (R&D;) department at Güntner Mexico to engineer next-generation industrial refrigeration, heat exchangers, and HVAC cooling solutions. Drive continuous improvement through product standardization, detailed mechanical engineering, thermal/structural optimization, and effective implementation into manufacturing, ensuring feasibility, high performance, cost efficiency, and world-class quality.
Responsibilities
- Lead, coordinate, and mentor the Mechanical Design (R&D;) engineering team in developing advanced refrigeration and heat exchange technologies.
- Drive end-to-end development of new standard products and custom cooling units aligned with market trends, sales requirements, and global HVAC efficiency standards.
- Execute mechanical designs focused on raw material optimization, sheet metal structure design, and coil/piping integration.
- Research and evaluate innovative manufacturing techniques, CAD tools, and structural/thermal design trends to enhance Güntner’s technical competitive edge.
- Review, update, and maintain engineering standard documentation, BOMs, and technical specifications in alignment with internal procedures.
- Provide specialized technical support and engineering release documentation for manufacturing, assembly, quality, and testing teams.
- Establish design strategies and standardization workflows to streamline NPD (New Product Development) cycles.
- Develop detailed 3D models and manufacturing drawings for prototypes using Solid Edge.
- Follow up, inspect, and validate prototype builds during production, performance testing, and wind-tunnel/pressure test phases.
- Coordinate cross-functional prototype approvals with Quality, Operations, and Product Management stakeholders.
- Implement DFM/DFA (Design for Manufacturing / Design for Assembly) principles to reduce assembly times and optimize sheet metal/copper tubing layouts.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related field.
- Experience: 3–4 years of experience as a Design Engineering Coordinator, R&D; Team Lead, or Mechanical Development Coordinator, preferably within the HVAC, Industrial Refrigeration, Heat Exchanger, or manufacturing sectors.
- Leadership: Proven track record in team leadership, direct report management, and driving technical project deliverables.
- Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Solid Edge (or demonstrated expertise in Siemens CAD environment), along with strong knowledge of sheet metal design, structural framing, and tube/piping layout.
- Language: Advanced conversational and written English skills (Required for collaboration with global engineering teams).
