The Import & Export Engineer – Plant Startup will be responsible for coordinating and supporting the implementation of import and export operations required for the successful startup and ongoing operation of the LSCMX manufacturing plant.

This position will play a key role during the transition from project and construction activities into full manufacturing operations, ensuring the timely and compliant movement of machinery, equipment, raw materials, components, supplies, and finished products across international borders.

The role requires strong coordination with customs brokers, logistics providers, suppliers, internal departments, and international teams, as well as the ability to establish and maintain effective import/export processes in a growing manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

- Coordinate and follow up on import and export operations during the plant startup and operational phases.
- Support the implementation and stabilization of foreign trade and customs processes for the new manufacturing operation.
- Coordinate the importation of machinery, equipment, spare parts, raw materials, components, and production supplies required for plant startup and operations.
- Support export operations for finished products and other materials once manufacturing activities begin.
- Coordinate activities with customs brokers, freight forwarders, carriers, suppliers, and logistics providers.
- Prepare, review, and maintain import/export documentation and customs records.
- Ensure that shipments comply with applicable Mexican customs and foreign trade regulations.
- Support tariff classification activities and verify the appropriate documentation and information required for customs clearance.
- Monitor shipments from origin through customs clearance and final delivery, identifying and resolving potential delays or discrepancies.




- Maintain accurate and complete foreign trade files, records, and supporting documentation.
- Follow up on customs clearance, transportation, delivery schedules, and documentation discrepancies.
- Coordinate with Purchasing, Supply Chain, Logistics, Warehouse, Finance, Production, Engineering, and other internal departments to ensure material availability.
- Work closely with international teams and overseas suppliers to coordinate shipment requirements, documentation, and delivery schedules.
- Support the development of standard operating procedures, controls, and workflows for import/export activities.
- Establish and maintain tracking tools and reports for shipments, customs operations, costs, and lead times.
- Monitor import/export-related costs and identify opportunities for process and cost improvement.
- Support internal and external customs audits by maintaining proper documentation and records.
- Identify potential compliance risks and escalate issues appropriately.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to customs, logistics, lead time, cost reduction, and supply chain efficiency.
- Perform other activities related to foreign trade and logistics as required during the plant startup and operational stages.

Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in International Business, International Trade, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field.
- 3–5 years of experience in import/export, foreign trade, customs, or international logistics.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment is highly desirable.
- Experience coordinating operations with customs brokers, freight forwarders,



carriers, and international suppliers.
- Knowledge of Mexican customs and foreign trade regulations.
- Knowledge of tariff classification and import/export documentation.
- Experience managing international shipments and customs clearance processes.
- Experience with ERP systems; SAP experience is highly desirable.
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
- Fluent or advanced conversational English is indispensable, including the ability to communicate with international teams and suppliers.
- Experience supporting the startup, expansion, relocation, or implementation of a manufacturing facility.
- Experience with the importation of machinery, equipment, raw materials, and production components.
- Experience in the electrical, cable, automotive, industrial, or other manufacturing industries.
- Experience establishing or improving import/export processes and controls.
- Knowledge of IMMEX, PROSEC, VAT certification, or other Mexican foreign trade programs is desirable.
