About the team

The mobile app platform is the developer experience team at Zillow. Our mission is to empower all native mobile developers at Zillow Group to quickly and easily build, integrate, and ship customer experiences in the Zillow Super App with confidence.

We have 5 key areas of focus: Architecture, Standardization, Delivery, Observability, Experimentation, and Quality. We support every feature team at Zillow, enabling Zillow iOS devs to ship the features that Zillow’s customers love.

Today we’re making huge improvements in the end-to-end developer experience. We’ve made these improvements by focusing on Xcode project generation and by leveraging a distributed build cache. Over our lifetime we’ve created a host of shared services that every feature team relies on including, a dependency injection framework, various transport protocols (REST, GraphQL), a Combine replacement that utilizes Swift concurrency, and a modularization strategy for our flagship app.

Typically, the iOS team works together but each person leads a different project on the roadmap.

About the role

This role requires a large breadth of knowledge. On top of the basic expectation of a deep knowledge of Swift a developer on the App Platform Team needs to have done enough feature work to understand what it’s like for our customer teams, but have extensive experience building shared services.

The workload of our new hire will involve driving some vertical on our roadmap, previous examples include: Creating shared services, optimizing the developer experience with Tuist and Bazel, creating CLIs in Swift that our developers interact with every day, refactoring the AppDelegate to be distributed and highly modularized, getting the app ready for the latest iOS/Xcode release, and converting Objective-C code to Swift.

This role has been categorized as a teleworker position. Teleworkers do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and instead work from a physical location of their choice, which must be identified to the Company.



Employees may live anywhere in Mexico, with availability to travel to Mexico City, as we recommend attendance at occasional office events.

In addition to a competitive base salary and benefits, this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location.

Who you are

Strong mobile engineer with:

- A deep knowledge of Swift

- Enough experience with iOS development (including UI work) to build a feature themselves

- Competent knowledge of Xcode and optimizations for large projects

- Experience writing backend services in any language

- Experience building developer tools for a large number of developers

- Strong opinions on what good development looks like and a passion to drive initiatives themselves

- Objective-C experience (nice to have)
