Omni Pontoque Resort at Punta de Mita
Opening in early 2027, Omni Hotels & Resorts has officially broken ground and construction is well underway on Omni Pontoque Resort at Punta de Mita, the brand’s first luxury resort in Mexico. Staying true to the brand’s mission of creating elevated places and spaces that are inspired by a destination, the resort’s exterior and interiors will pay homage to the local culture with a contemporary twist.
This beachfront resort will feature 244 guest rooms and suites and two 4-bedroom villas with sweeping views of the Bay of Banderas. Complementing the local area’s many attractions and activities, the resort will offer three original restaurant concepts, a destination spa with 14 treatment rooms, two retail shops, multiple pools including adult-only and family-friendly options, a state-of-the-art indoor and outdoor fitness center, and a kids club. Boasting over 27,000 square feet of meeting and event space, the Omni Pontoque will feature a 6,000 square foot ballroom, an open-air pavilion, multiple event lawns and dedicated meeting rooms, all of which provide breathtaking ocean views.
The Assistant Director of Human Resources is responsible for assisting with and supervising all aspects of Human Resources, including recruitment, benefits, training, associate relations, safety and Workers’ Compensation, as well as liability prevention and legal compliance. This role works closely with the Director of Human Resources to uphold Omni culture, protect the legal interests of the Company, and support a well-rounded, compliant, and engaging associate experience from the resort’s pre-opening phase onward.
Essential Functions
- Supervise and train hourly and management Human Resources team members.
- Provide counsel to the Director of Human Resources in all areas of Omni policy, culture, and leadership.
- Implement training and development programs, and recommend new programs based on need.
- Conduct investigations and assist the Director of Human Resources and senior leadership in making employment status decisions.
- Assist the Director of Human Resources in the creation of responses to employment litigation from Federal and State offices.
- Fulfill all the responsibilities of the Director of Human Resources in their absence, communicating effectively with property leadership as necessary.
- Provide guidance and advice to department heads and leaders at all levels of the hotel on employee relations issues,
ensuring the leadership team upholds Omni culture and complies with the law.
- Assist the Director of Human Resources in developing and maintaining an active succession plan for all departments of the hotel.
- Ensure all Omni Benefits programs are implemented according to standards.
- Ensure on-boarding of new associates is implemented according to Omni standards.
- Ensure employee terminations are implemented according to Omni standards.
- Maintain legal compliance at all times, ensuring the team stays up to date with evolving legislation and compliance requirements.
- Maintain all Associate Service Center Standard Operating Procedures.
- Ensure Associate Services complies with Internal Audit requirements.
- Ensure the department meets the standards of the HR Assessment.
- Implement the hotel’s associate feedback programs, including the Associate Engagement survey, and assist the hotel in creating substantial action plans that move the hotel forward.
- Ensure all Omni Training Programs are implemented successfully.
- Ensure the hotel complies with all training required by law (e.g., TIPS, Food Handler, Sexual Harassment, etc.).
- Ensure associate files are maintained in a neat and organized manner.
- Plan and execute engaging associate events at least quarterly.
- Implement Omni’s recognition programs and ensure the Omni Service Champion culture is celebrated.
- Implement the hotel’s wage and salary adjustment programs, ensuring accurate market data drives compensation decisions.
- Implement the performance appraisal and salary increase programs according to Omni standards, and establish an aggressive and effective recruiting and employment function, including job fairs in and around the community, colleges, and universities. Utilize the monthly forecasting tool to ensure all departmental manpower needs are met.
- Consistently work to define Omni culture and the Six Pillar philosophy on the property, adapting to varying situations based on adherence to Omni culture and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Develop a consistent and engaging associate communications network within the hotel via bulletin boards (electronic or otherwise), department communication boards, posters, and flyers.
- Ensure clear and accurate documentation of all associate issues on a timely basis, following proper counseling and disciplinary procedures, to protect the legal liability of the Company at all times.
- Monitor departmental expenses in compliance with the check-book accounting process, ensuring associate relations and recruitment/advertising expenses remain in line with the monthly budget.
- Participate in the yearly budgeting process, forecasting associate relations expenditures with the Director of Human Resources.
- Fulfill reasonable requests of management as directed by the Director of Human Resources, General Manager, or Managing Director.
- Conduct exit interviews for all terminating associates and ensure final clearance and paycheck distribution.
Minimum Requirements
- Bilingual in English and Spanish, with strong verbal and written communication skills in both languages.
- At least 3 years of experience in Human Resources.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a Human Resources leadership role.
- Significant employee relations experience at a decision-making level, including experience conducting investigations, managing coaching and counseling, and handling grievances.
- A well-rounded Human Resources background with solid experience in employee relations, benefits, training, safety, liability avoidance, and compliance.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to coach, counsel, advise, mentor, and motivate associates and managers at all levels.
- Hotel/resort experience strongly preferred.
- SPHR Certification or AHLA CHRE Certification preferred.
- Experience conducting and implementing training and development programs preferred.
- Large hotel/resort experience preferred.
- Operations management experience preferred.
