: The R&D; Testing Engineer is responsible for supporting the development, testing, evaluation, and validation of cosmetic and personal care products. This position conducts laboratory testing, evaluates raw materials and finished products, supports production trials, investigates product issues, and works closely with R&D;, Quality, Regulatory, and Production teams to ensure products meet established quality, safety, performance, and regulatory requirements.
- Role Responsibilities: Conduct physical and physicochemical testing of cosmetic and personal care products, including viscosity, pH, density, texture/rheology, color, appearance, odor, melting point/slip point, spread ability, and other applicable product characteristics. Develop and perform testing protocols for product stability, compatibility, and performance. Conduct and monitor real-time and accelerated stability studies, document results, and identify potential formulation or stability issues. Evaluate raw materials, bulk products, finished products, and production batches against approved specifications and standards. Support first production, pilot batches, and scale-up trials, and identify potential formulation, process, or quality risks. Conduct and support packaging compatibility and seal integrity testing, including product/package interaction, leakage, container closure integrity, and dispensing performance. Investigate product testing abnormalities, including color, texture, viscosity, stability, appearance,
and other physical or chemical characteristics, and support root-cause investigations. Work closely with R&D;, Quality, Regulatory, Production, and external laboratories to coordinate microbiological, safety, dermatological, and other specialized testing. Analyze test results and prepare technical reports, test summaries, and recommendations. Support the evaluation of formulation changes, raw material changes, manufacturing process changes, and production deviations through appropriate testing. Maintain laboratory equipment, calibration records, test methods, and laboratory documentation in accordance with company procedures and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP). Support applicable cosmetic regulatory and testing requirements in Mexico, including COFEPRIS requirements. Maintain accurate and complete laboratory records and ensure testing is performed according to approved procedures and specifications. The responsibilities mentioned may vary and be increased based on the instructions of the Company's directors according to the Company's needs.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Cosmetic Science, or a related field. 2–5 years of experience in cosmetic, personal care, pharmaceutical, chemical, or related product testing or R&D.; Hands-on experience with laboratory testing and analytical equipment.
Experience in cosmetic physical and physicochemical testing.
Experience with stability testing, product evaluation, raw material testing, and production batch evaluation.
Experience with packaging compatibility and seal integrity testing, including leakage, container closure integrity, and dispensing performance. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to identify potential causes of product or process issues. Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations, including NOM, ISO, ASTM, and applicable cosmetic regulatory requirements.
Experience with statistical analysis software such as Minitab or JMP. Knowledge of cosmetic testing and regulatory requirements in Mexico, including applicable COFEPRIS requirements. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, for data recording and analysis. Proficient in English, both written and verbal.
