Design Engineer
OVERVIEW
AS Automation is seeking a Design Engineer to join our engineering team and contribute to the design, development, and implementation of innovative industrial automation solutions.
The Design Engineer will be responsible for developing mechanical designs, components, systems, and technical solutions according to customer requirements and project objectives. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including automation engineers, electrical engineers, technicians, project managers, suppliers, and customers, to transform technical requirements into efficient, reliable, and manufacturable solutions.
The adecuado candidate has a strong technical background, proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software, problem-solving skills, and a passion for industrial automation, engineering, and continuous improvement.
KEY RESPONSABILITIES
- Collaborate with engineering, automation, electrical, and project teams to understand customer requirements, project objectives, technical specifications, and design constraints.
- Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, equipment, and systems for industrial automation projects using computer-aided design (CAD) software.
- Create detailed 2D and 3D drawings, models, layouts, assemblies, and technical documentation to support engineering and manufacturing activities.
- Develop mechanical solutions for automation equipment, machinery, production lines, tooling, fixtures, and custom industrial applications.
- Perform engineering calculations, simulations, and technical analyses to validate and optimize designs for functionality, safety, reliability, manufacturability, and performance.
- Evaluate and select appropriate materials, components, manufacturing processes, and technologies according to project requirements, performance, availability, and cost.
- Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to source mechanical components, materials, and specialized equipment, evaluating technical proposals and ensuring compliance with project specifications.
- Participate in design reviews, providing technical recommendations and identifying opportunities for improvement, optimization, and cost reduction.
- Generate and maintain accurate engineering documentation, including technical drawings, specifications, bills of materials (BOM), assembly instructions, and engineering changes.
- Work closely with manufacturing, assembly, installation, and commissioning teams to resolve design-related challenges and provide technical support throughout project execution.
- Conduct testing and validation of designs, analyze results, and implement necessary modifications or improvements.
- Ensure that designs comply with applicable engineering standards, safety requirements, industry regulations, and customer specifications.
- Collaborate with electrical, controls, and automation engineers to ensure proper integration between mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
- Support the development and implementation of industrial automation and Industry 4.0 solutions, contributing to the integration of technologies that improve productivity, reliability, efficiency, and process performance.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on design optimization, energy efficiency, cost reduction, reliability, and process improvement.
- Stay informed about emerging technologies, engineering practices, automation trends, and innovative solutions applicable to industrial environments.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Proven experience as a Design Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Automation Engineer, or in a similar engineering role.
- Experience working on industrial automation, machinery, equipment, manufacturing, or engineering projects.
- Proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks or equivalent.
- Strong technical knowledge of mechanical design principles, materials, manufacturing processes, and mechanical components.
- Experience designing machinery, automation equipment, tooling, fixtures, assemblies, or custom industrial solutions is highly desirable.
- Experience with engineering analysis and simulation software, such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA), is advantageous.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to translate customer requirements into practical engineering solutions.
- Knowledge of engineering standards, safety requirements, and regulations applicable to industrial machinery and automation.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, mechanical documentation, and engineering plans.
- Experience with BOM development, technical documentation, and engineering change processes.
- Excellent project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, suppliers, and customers.
- Creativity and innovation in developing engineering concepts and technical solutions.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in design, modeling, calculations, and technical documentation.
- Experience with prototyping, testing, commissioning, or validation of mechanical systems is advantageous.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement, Industry 4.0, IIoT, or industrial automation technologies is advantageous.
- Ability to adapt to changing project requirements and work effectively in a dynamic engineering environment.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field.
- Additional training or certifications in CAD, mechanical design, industrial automation, robotics, or related technologies are desirable.
