This role will be responsible for supporting the design and manufacturability ofautomotive frames and subframes, applying Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T;) from the earliest stages of product design.
The position will evaluate customer designs and translate product requirements into robust manufacturing solutions, ensuring that components, subassemblies and full assemblies can be effectivelyformed, welded, assembled and validatedwhile meeting customer quality and dimensional requirements.Key Responsibilities
Define and update GD&T; requirementsfor automotive frame and subframe components and assemblies according toASME Y14.5, considering customer standards, process capability, repeatability and vehicle fit.
Review customer CAD models and engineering drawingsto evaluate product manufacturability across forming, stamping, welding and assembly processes.
Create and update 2 D engineering and joint drawings, ensuring alignment between product design, manufacturing processes and customer welding and quality requirements.
Evaluate components and assemblies from a Design for Manufacturing perspective, identifying potential forming, welding, assembly and dimensional feasibility issues before product implementation.
Define and validate datum schemesusing the Six Points Locating Principle (PLP), ensuring correlation between engineering drawings and forming/assembly tooling.
Develop engineering design information, including drawings, linear stack-ups and formability checks,
to support feasibility changes and customer engineering requirements.
Participate in product verification and weld study workshops, collaborating with Quality, Assembly, Forming and Welding teams and acting as a technical liaison between Metalsa and Customer Engineering teams.
Support manufacturing plants during product implementation and production, helping resolve design, dimensional and manufacturability challenges.
Contribute to GD&T; standardization and continuous improvement, incorporating customer specifications, ASME Y14.5 and IATF ***** requirements into engineering standards.Profile
Bachelor's degree inMechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automotive Engineering, Industrial Design Engineering or a related engineering field.
Strong experience inautomotive product design, CAD modeling and GD&T.;
Advanced knowledge ofGeometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T;); experience applyingASME Y14.5standards.
Advanced experience usingNX and/or CATIAfor solid modeling, surface modeling, assemblies and drafting.
Experience creating and interpreting2 D engineering drawings, 3 D CAD models, datum schemes and dimensional stack-ups.
Knowledge ofDesign for Manufacturing (DFM)principles applied to automotive structural components.
Experience with automotive manufacturing processes includingsteel sheet stamping/forming, welding and assembly.
Knowledge ofhydroforming, roll forming and aluminum extrusion design principlesis highly desirable.
Experience withTecnomatix Variation Analysis Simulationis desirable.
Understanding oftooling design, process capability and Statistical Process Control (SPC).
Familiarity with engineering problem-solving and quality tools such asDFMEA, A3, Fishbone Diagrams, Pareto Charts and Control Charts.
Ability to collaborate withDesign, Manufacturing, Quality, Welding, Assembly and Customer Engineering teamsto solve product and manufacturability challenges.
Advanced English level, with the ability to participate in technical discussions and collaborate with global teams.
