Role purpose

The Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Controllers team within Finance is responsible for the strategy, preparation, review, and submission of mandatory ESG/sustainability disclosures for HSBC Mexico. The team works closely with Sustainability, Risk, Finance, Legal, HR, and other global functions to deliver timely, accurate, and well-governed disclosures. Its remit includes establishing consistent global standards, enhancing disclosure controls and data lineage, improving transparency, and driving continuous improvement across processes, metrics, and enabling technology.

Role Summary

The role defines, implements, and embeds HSBC’s global sustainability reporting policy framework, governance model, and disclosure control environment. It places particular emphasis on influencing senior stakeholders and supporting critical decision-making as the Group and local entities build foundational policies and frameworks to meet regulatory obligations. The role provides enterprise leadership across policy design, regulatory interpretation, executive engagement,



regulatory-grade delivery, and coordination across integral and local stakeholders.

Main activities
- Execute the correct accounting records in compliance with local, international, and internal regulations.
- General coordination of the accounting closing process.
- Policy, Standards & Methodology
- Draft, implement, and maintain policies, standards, and procedures covering governance, roles and responsibilities, materiality, and controls, aligned to relevant global and local standards (e.g., CSRD/ESRS, ISSB/IFRS S1 & S2, CUE, CUB).
- Embed sustainability reporting within the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework and taxonomy, strengthening ESG-specific disclosure controls and procedures.
- Regulatory Change Management & Thought Leadership
- Lead engagement with regulatory policy teams and local regulators to interpret and translate regulatory changes into actionable requirements.
