Your role at Clorox:
As a Senior Accountant within Clorox’s Operational Accounting Team, this role partners with business units and cross-functional teams to provide accounting oversight and support across assigned operational accounting areas, which may include revenue, royalties, cash discount accruals, other accruals, other receivables, inventory, treasury, corporate accounting, and business unit support. The position is involved in various aspects of the monthly and quarterly close processes in accordance with U.S. GAAP, including journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, reporting, analytics, and internal controls. This role provides technical accounting expertise on matters impacting financial reporting and strategic business decisions, using strong influencing skills to partner effectively across the Finance organization and business teams.
The Senior
Accountant also drives process improvements by identifying and executing changes that improve efficiency and effectiveness, including leveraging data, technology, automation, and AI-enabled tools, while supporting external reporting requirements, internal and external audit activities, and special projects as required.In this role, you will:
Operational Accounting Close, Reporting, and Analytics (50%)
- Lead the execution of monthly and quarterly accounting close processes for assigned areas of responsibility, which may include revenue, royalties, cash discount accruals, other accruals, other receivables, inventory, treasury, corporate accounting, and business unit support
- Prepare journal entries, accruals, estimates, reserves, balance sheet reconciliations, and related reporting and analytics to support accurate and timely close activities
- Analyze transactions, balances, and trends to identify issues, explain variances, and ensure accounting activities are completed in accordance with U.S. GAAP and company policies
- Support external reporting and internal reporting requirements by preparing analysis, explanations, and documentation for assigned operational accounting areas
Technical Accounting, Controls,
and Stakeholder Support (25%)
- Provide technical accounting support, including U.S. GAAP research, recommendations on accounting issues, and implementation support for accounting and policy changes impacting operational accounting areas
- Partner with business unit partners within Finance, Order to Cash, Supply Chain, Sales, Consolidations, Treasury, Corporate Accounting, and other cross-functional stakeholders to resolve accounting matters, support strategic business decisions, and ensure accurate and timely financial reporting
- Support the execution of internal controls over assigned processes, including monthly and quarterly account reconciliations, quarterly financial statement certifications, process owner certifications, and documentation of key judgments and estimates
- Provide timely internal and external audit support, including preparation and review of audit schedules, explanations, and supporting documentation
Process Improvement, Technology, and Value Creation (20%)
- Drive process improvements by identifying and executing changes that make operational accounting processes more effective, efficient, consistent, and scalable
- Leverage data, technology, automation, reporting tools, and AI-enabled capabilities to streamline work, unlock value, and generate meaningful insights that support accounting processes and decision-making
- Challenge historical processes and partner with stakeholders to simplify, standardize, and accelerate monthly and quarterly close activities while maintaining strong controls and data integrity
- Support special project work and other ad hoc requests to support Operational Accounting, Finance, external reporting, audit activities, or other accounting groups as required (5%)
What we look for:
- Minimum 4-5 years of experience in finance and/or accounting
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish (this role will support US)
- Strong analytical skills with ability to identify issues and risks
- Continuous improvement mindset with ability to identify and implement ways to streamline and improve effectiveness and efficiency
- Solid understanding of US GAAP and financial statements with ability to do accounting research as needed
- Ability to work in a cross functional environment and form solid relationships with other teams and work groups
- Strong planning and organizational skills
- Strong attention to detail and data integrity
- Ability to work independently and solution oriented mindset
- Proficient in PC applications (e.g. Excel, Microsoft Office, PowerPoint)
Desirable:
- SAP S4 Hana, Group Reporting, Power BI, Blackline, AI integration (Copilot, etc.) experience
Education Level/Degree: (Please clarify if equivalent experience is acceptable with no degree)
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- MBA, MAC/MSA or CPA a plus
