The Senior Product

Owner – Data Trust, Metadata, Catalog & Data Quality is responsible for defining and delivering enterprise capabilities that help GM Financial employees discover, understand, trust, and consume governed data. This role combines the scope of Metadata, Data Catalog and Data Marketplace with Data Quality and Issue Management to create an integrated product capability focused on data trust, reuse, regulatory readiness, and improved decision-making.

The Senior Product Owner partners with Business, Technology, Privacy, Compliance, Risk, Audit, Data Governance, Data Engineering, and Data Stewardship teams to define the product vision, roadmap, backlog, adoption strategy, and success measures for enterprise metadata, catalog, glossary, lineage, certification, marketplace, data quality, critical data elements, and issue management capabilities. This role translates business, regulatory, audit, and operational needs into prioritized product outcomes and ensures delivery is aligned to enterprise data governance objectives.

In this role you will:

1. Product Strategy, Roadmap & Value Realization

- Define and maintain the product vision, strategy, roadmap, and success measures for Metadata Management, Data Catalog, Business Glossary, Data Lineage, Data Certification, Data Marketplace, Data Quality, Critical Data Elements, and Data Issue Management.
- Translate business, regulatory, audit, risk, privacy, and data governance requirements into prioritized product capabilities and measurable outcomes.
- Balance enterprise value, regulatory risk reduction, adoption, delivery capacity, and technology dependencies when prioritizing the product backlog.
- Establish quarterly delivery objectives, adoption targets, and value realization metrics for the integrated Data Trust product family.

1. Metadata, Catalog, Glossary & Lineage Enablement

- Own product capabilities that enable enterprise data discovery, understanding, reuse, and trust through metadata standards, taxonomy, business glossary, lineage, and catalog adoption.
- Define requirements for data asset onboarding, certification, ownership visibility, lineage coverage, and marketplace / shop-for-data experiences.
- Partner with Data Stewards and Business Data Owners to improve metadata completeness, business definitions, ownership accuracy, and catalog usability.
- Drive adoption of catalog and glossary standards across business domains and technology platforms.

1. Data Quality, CDEs & Issue Management





- Own product capabilities for the enterprise Data Quality framework, Critical Data Element governance, DQ rules, monitoring, scorecards, and issue management workflows.
- Define requirements for DQ metrics, rule libraries, dashboards, defect tracking, root cause visibility, remediation oversight, and SLA reporting.
- Partner with Business Data Owners, Data Stewards, Reporting teams, and Technology teams to prioritize quality improvements based on business impact and risk.
- Ensure Data Quality outcomes are linked to metadata, stewardship, certification, regulatory data mapping, and audit evidence needs.

1. Product Backlog & Agile Delivery

- Own and prioritize the integrated product backlog, including epics, features, user stories, acceptance criteria, and release priorities.
- Partner with Engineering, Architecture, Scrum / Delivery, Change Management, and Operations teams to convert product priorities into executable delivery plans.
- Manage cross-POD dependencies with Privacy Enablement, Policy / Risk / Compliance, Regulatory Data Operations, and Data Stewardship teams.
- Ensure delivered capabilities meet defined business outcomes, governance standards, control expectations, and user adoption needs.

1. Governance, Regulatory & Audit Alignment

- Ensure metadata, data quality, certification, lineage, and issue management capabilities support regulatory data mapping, privacy enablement, audit readiness, reporting integrity, and enterprise control objectives.
- Provide traceability between product requirements, governance policies, data controls, regulatory expectations, and evidence needs.
- Partner with Privacy, Compliance, Risk, Cybersecurity, Legal, and Internal Audit stakeholders to confirm product capabilities support defensible governance outcomes.
- Identify gaps, risks, and opportunities where product enhancements can reduce manual effort, improve evidence readiness, or strengthen regulatory response.

1. Stakeholder Engagement & Adoption

- Collaborate with business and technology stakeholders to understand data discovery, quality, ownership, reporting, and regulatory needs.
- Communicate product priorities, roadmap decisions, risks, trade-offs, and value outcomes to stakeholders and leadership.
- Partner with Change Management and Data Culture teams to drive adoption, training, communications, and feedback loops.
- Promote enterprise data governance best practices and reinforce accountability for data ownership, metadata quality, and issue resolution.

1. Continuous Improvement

- Measure product performance using adoption, quality, completeness, delivery, and business value metrics.




- Recommend enhancements to governance processes, controls, tools, automation, and operating models.
- Use stakeholder feedback, audit findings, issue trends, and adoption metrics to continuously improve the product roadmap.
- Monitor industry practices and emerging capabilities in metadata management, data catalogs, data quality, data observability, and marketplace enablement.

Qualifications

What makes You an adecuado candidate?

- Experience defining product roadmaps, managing product backlogs, writing user stories, prioritizing features, and driving delivery in an Agile environment.
- Experience working with business, technology, privacy, compliance, risk, audit, and data governance stakeholders in a regulated environment.
- Familiarity with data governance and data management platforms such as Informatica, Collibra, Alation, Microsoft Purview, BigID, or similar tools.
- Experience with reporting, dashboards, data quality metrics, catalog adoption metrics, and value realization measures.
- Strong communication, analytical, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to influence cross-functional teams, resolve competing priorities, and drive accountability without direct authority.
- Experience with cloud data platforms such as Azure, Databricks, Snowflake, or similar platforms preferred.

Additional Knowledge and Skills Working effectively within an AI enabled environment:

- Ability to use AI tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot) to support daily work
- Skills in evaluating AI outputs for accuracy, compliance, and bias
- Experience integrating AI into workflows to improve efficiency or insights
- Familiarity with AI assisted research, summarization, and content generation
- Understanding of responsible AI use, including ethics and data protection

Work Experience and Education

- 8+ years of experience in Data Governance, Data Management, Data Product Management, Metadata Management, Data Quality, Analytics, Data Architecture, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of metadata management, data catalogs, business glossary, lineage, data certification, data marketplace, data quality, Critical Data Elements, and issue management practices.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Systems, Data Management, Computer Science, Analytics, Risk Management, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.

Certifications

- CDMP, DCAM, DAMA, Informatica, Collibra, Alation, Microsoft Purview, BigID, Azure, Agile Product Owner, Scrum Product Owner, or related certifications preferred.
