The Activation Technician I supports service assurance and installation and activation activities by helping customers establish traffic over newly delivered telecommunications services. The role applies foundational OSI Layer 1 knowledge and a basic understanding of Ethernet, wavelength, DIA, WAN, and cloud connectivity solutions to troubleshoot equipment and services at customer and colocation sites. Working remotely under the direction of the Manager, Activations, this position coordinates with customers and internal teams to resolve delivery issues while maintaining quality and network reliability standards.

Professional communication in both Spanish and English is required.

Key Responsibilities

- Serve as the initial point of interaction with customers and provide a high level of customer satisfaction throughout the service turn-up process.
- Remotely troubleshoot and test telecommunications equipment supporting Ethernet, wavelength, DIA, WAN, and cloud connectivity services.
- Create, update, and assign new cases to track each circuit throughout the activation process.
- Read and interpret Design Layout Records (DLR) and follow current methods and procedures to assist in resolving circuit delivery issues.
- Ensure proper documentation and network reliability standards are followed to support services on an ongoing basis.
- Communicate with customers and internal departments in Spanish and English to support the timely remediation of delivery issues.




- Work effectively as part of a team while also performing independently with minimal supervision.
- Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

- Effective remote layer 1 troubleshooting skills specific to fiber links (wavelengths, light levels, and OTDR testing).
- Basic understanding of the Layer 2 and Layer 3 carrier networks and networking protocols and services including STP, REP, VLANs, ERP (G.8031/2) MPLS L2 / L3, DIA, VPLS, IPVPN, ISIS, BGP, OSPF, and DDOS.
- Effective problem solving and interpersonal skills.
- Great customer service skills.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Visio.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Education & Experience:

- 1 year related experience and/or training specific to carrier level networking; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred (Optional):

- Professional certifications (Cisco, Juniper, Nokia, Ciena, Arbor, Accedian) a plus but not required.
