Job Summary
We are seeking a Senior Application Performance and Observability Engineer with deep expertise in Java application performance, diagnostics, and end-to-end transaction traceability.
This role will lead technical investigations into complex performance issues and implement observability solutions across Java applications, APIs, databases, frontend systems, and downstream dependencies.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead investigations into application performance, latency, stability, and availability issues.
- Implement end-to-end application monitoring and transaction traceability.
- Analyze JVM performance, garbage collection, heap dumps, and thread dumps.
- Diagnose application issues in WebSphere and WebLogic environments.
- Implement structured application logging and correlation IDs.
- Configure distributed tracing across applications, APIs, databases, and downstream services.
- Monitor and troubleshoot applications using Datadog, New Relic, or similar APM tools.
- Perform Oracle database diagnostics using SQL execution plans, AWR, and ASH reports.
- Analyze JDBC connection pools, application thread pools, and session management.
- Investigate API latency, timeouts, retry behavior, and dependency failures.
- Trace user transactions from the browser through backend systems.
- Use Real User Monitoring to identify frontend errors and performance issues.
- Troubleshoot network, proxy, load balancer, and TLS-related problems.
- Trace transactions across legacy or partially instrumented platforms.
- Collaborate with application development,
infrastructure, database, and support teams to identify root causes and implement permanent solutions.
Required Qualifications
- Strong experience in Java application performance engineering.
- Advanced diagnostic experience with WebSphere and WebLogic.
- Hands-on experience with JVM profiling and analysis.
- Experience analyzing garbage collection logs, heap dumps, and thread dumps.
- Strong knowledge of structured logging, correlation IDs, and distributed tracing.
- Hands-on experience with Datadog, New Relic, or comparable APM and observability platforms.
- Experience with Oracle performance diagnostics, SQL execution plans, AWR, and ASH.
- Knowledge of JDBC connection pools, application thread pools, and session management.
- Experience troubleshooting APIs, latency, timeouts, retries, and integration failures.
- Knowledge of browser-to-backend transaction tracing and Real User Monitoring.
- Understanding of network, proxy, load balancer, and TLS troubleshooting.
- Experience supporting legacy or partially instrumented enterprise applications.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with Java-based enterprise or full-stack applications.
- Knowledge of frontend, API, middleware, database, and infrastructure dependencies.
- Experience implementing observability standards across complex application environments.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to coordinate technical investigations across multiple teams.
