Tech Lead (Spanish Fluent)
Location: Remote, with travel to Mexico as needed | Type: Contract | Experience: Senior to Lead | Pay: Up to $90/hr
About the Role
We're hiring three Tech Leads to own the frontend, backend, and platform layers of an enterprise calculation platform being built for a client with operations in Mexico. The system is a React single-page app sitting on a Django backend, with FastAPI engine services handling the heavy calculation and explosion work, all running on Azure.
You'll be joining a crafts-based digital product studio backed by a integral strategy consulting parent, on a multimillion dollar program with a long runway. The client teams you work with are in Mexico, so the day-to-day happens in Spanish: standups, architecture debates, documentation, and the occasional trip onsite.
This is a lead role that stays in the code. If you're looking for a title where you write architecture docs and hand them off, it isn't this one. If you're the person people come to when the service boundary is wrong and the query plan is worse, keep reading.
What You'll Do
- Own the technical direction for one layer of the platform, either the React SPA, the Django backend, or the FastAPI engine services, and stay hands on in it
- Set and defend the contracts between the web app, the backend, and the calculation engine so the three teams can move without stepping on each other
- Design schema and access patterns in Azure PostgreSQL for both runtime reads and platform tables, and make sure the queries hold up when the data grows
- Integrate Microsoft Entra ID SSO, with authorization logic managed in the application rather than pushed into the identity provider
- Ship through Azure Container Apps, with images built and published via Azure DevOps or GitHub into Azure Container Registry
- Keep the operational surface honest: secrets in Key Vault, notifications through Azure Communication Services,
and enough instrumentation in Azure Monitor and Application Insights to debug a production issue at 6pm
- Break work down, review code, and raise the bar for the engineers on your layer without becoming the bottleneck
- Run technical conversations directly with client engineers and stakeholders in Spanish, and travel to Mexico for planning, workshops, and onsite sessions when the program calls for it
Qualifications
Core Engineering
- Senior-level engineering background with real time spent as the technical lead on a team, including at least one system you took into production and then had to keep running
- Depth in either React and TypeScript for the SPA layer, or Python with Django and FastAPI for the backend and engine layer, plus working fluency in the other
- Experience designing service boundaries between a web backend and compute-heavy engine services (calculation, BOM explosion, pricing, or similar)
- PostgreSQL past the ORM: indexing, query plans, and schema design for mixed read and platform workloads
Cloud and Platform
- Hands-on Azure experience, specifically Container Apps, Azure PostgreSQL, Key Vault, and messaging or notification services
- Entra ID SSO integration, and a clear point of view on where authorization belongs
- CI/CD ownership in Azure DevOps or GitHub, container registry workflows, and observability through Azure Monitor and Application Insights
Language and Travel
- Fluent Spanish, spoken and written, at a level where you can lead a technical discussion and write documentation a client engineer will actually use
- Able to travel to Mexico as the program requires
Why Join Us You'll be embedded with a studio that treats software like a craft, where engineers and designers work side by side and the bar for what ships is genuinely high. The program is funded, scoped for the long haul, and past the pitch stage, which means the work is building and running the thing rather than pitching it again.
Three leads, one platform, a client that needs it to work. If that's the kind of problem you want on your calendar, we should talk.
