Job Summary Habitat for Humanity of La Plata County is seeking a strategic, collaborative, and innovative leader to serve as its next Executive Director. Working under the general direction of the Board of Directors, the Executive Director provides overall executive leadership of the affiliate’s housing ministry in such a manner that optimum results are achieved. The Executive Director is a non-voting member of the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee. Serving La Plata County, Habitat for Humanity of La Plata County (HFHLPC), an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, is an independent, locally run nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. Habitat for Humanity helps families of low- and moderate-incomes become homeowners by building and partnering in the creation of affordable housing. HFHLPC also builds community partnerships that promote spiritual values and individual responsibility. Responsibilities I. Management and Governance Implements the Strategic Plan as adopted by the Board of Directors. Hires and supervises key staff members. Provides staff development, resources, and succession planning. Evaluates the performance of key staff members. Collaborates with the Board of Directors and ensures they are an integral partner in fundraising, strategic planning, and community engagement. Manages Board and Committee communications. Assists the Board with recruiting and retaining Board and Committee members. II. Financial Management and Resource Development Oversees the preparation of the annual financial statements. Leads the annual budget process; identifies key initiatives for Board and Committee consideration. Prepares monthly reporting of results and budget-to-presente variance analysis. Maintains effective internal control over financial records and systems. III. Resource Development and Community Relations Identifies and develops individual and corporate fundraising opportunities, as well as governmental sources of revenue. Manages grant development and administration.



Develops programs to ensure effective communication to corporate and individual donors. Acts to maintain effective client relations under all organization programs. Represents Habitat to interested communities, churches, foundations, civic leaders, local government, and provides for visibility of Habitat in the surrounding area. IV. Program Management Develops and recommends construction plans to the Board of Directors. Facilitates construction of housing units through the coordination of volunteers, paid personnel, and the procurement of construction materials. Oversees homeowner orientation, underwriting, and selection. Ensures compliance for mortgage origination and house closings. Manages Re Store staff and ensures that Re Store is a profitable and properly run business. Attributes, Experience and Skills Commitment to the Habitat for Humanity mission, principles, and covenant. Experience in nonprofit management and fundraising. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Basic understanding of house construction, underwriting, and mortgage origination. Ability to work effectively with volunteer boards and committees. Ability to build effective, respectful relationships with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences. Leadership, facilitation, collaboration, partnership-building, and interpersonal communication skills. Hands‑on management of a small team; willingness to help out where needed. Knowledge of the affordable housing industry. Effective financial management of nonprofit organizations, including budgeting and financial planning. Professional Experience Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred; relevant professional experience may substitute for formal education. Five years of progressively responsible leadership, supervisory, or management experience in a nonprofit, business, public‑sector, or related organization preferred. Salary and Benefits The salary range for this full-time, exempt position is $62,000–$80,000 , with consideration given to relevant education and experience.
