SAP ABAP RAP Consultant

About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced SAP ABAP RAP Consultant to design and build cloud-ready, scalable applications on SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) using the ABAP RESTful Application Programming Model (RAP). You will develop OData services (V2/V4), design Fiori elements apps, and integrate with SAP S/4HANA (public, private, or on prem), following clean-core and modern DevOps practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop modern ABAP Cloud solutions using RAP (managed/unmanaged) with entities, behaviors, and EML (Entity Manipulation Language).

• Build and expose OData services (V2/V4) via Service Definition and Service Binding; ensure versioning, paging, filtering, and draft handling.

• Design Fiori elements applications (List Report/Object Page/Analytical List Page) consuming RAP services; collaborate on annotations (UI, ValueHelps).

• Work on SAP BTP (Cloud Foundry/Kyma) for cloud developments; configure destinations, XSUAA, principal propagation, and Cloud Connector where needed.

• Integrate S/4HANA with BTP apps (inbound/outbound APIs, events, OData/REST); design CDS views (interface/projection), metadata extensions, and released APIs.

• Develop & consume APIs (OData/REST); implement security (OAuth2, scopes/roles), CSRF handling, and error handling patterns.

• Testing, debugging & performance optimization: ABAP Unit, ATC checks, SQL Monitor/ST05,



SAT; profiling and query optimization.

• Collaborate with functional consultants, architects, UI developers, and DevOps to deliver end to end solutions with quality and traceability.

• Documentation & reviews: technical specs, API specs (OpenAPI if applicable), code reviews, and deployment guides.

• (Senior) Coach developers on RAP patterns, code quality, and cloud extensibility.

Must Have Qualifications

• ABAP/RAP: Strong ABAP OO; hands on RAP (managed/unmanaged), behavior definitions/implementations, determinations/validations/actions, late numbering, locking, draft.

• OData Services: Practical experience exposing/consuming OData V2/V4 with RAP (service definition/binding, $select/$expand, deep insert/update).

• CDS Expertise: Data modeling (root/projection), associations/compositions, annotations (UI, search, semantics), and CDS view performance.

• Tooling: ADT (Eclipse) for ABAP; Client for UI5/Fiori; abapGit/gCTS; transport and CTS/gCTS familiarity.

• BTP Foundations: Destinations, XSUAA, cloud roles/scopes, Cloud Connector, CF CLI; basic YAML/build tasks.

• S/4HANA Integration: Consuming/releasing APIs; BAPI/OData; familiarity with clean-core and released whitelisted APIs.

• Quality & Perf:



ABAP Unit, ATC, SCI; SQL trace, performance troubleshooting; secure coding guidelines.

• Soft Skills: Clear communication, collaborative mindset, ability to translate functional requirements into scalable technical designs.

Good to Have (Plus)

• Eventing & Integration: SAP Event Mesh, API Management, SAP Integration Suite (Cloud Integration/iFlows).

• Security: Principal propagation (Client → BTP → S/4), OAuth flows, role collections; audit readiness.

• Data & Analytics: CDS analytical models, analytical projections, ALP; SAP HANA Cloud basics.

• DevOps: CI/CD pipelines (Project “Piper”, Jenkins, GitHub Actions), code review workflows, feature branching.

• Extensibility: Key user vs developer extensibility, side by side vs in-app, extensibility for S/4HANA Cloud (public/private).

• RAP Accelerator/Generator usage and customization; familiarity with Fiori tools and UI annotations.

• CAP/Node/Java familiarity for side by side scenarios.

Certifications (Preferred)

• SAP certifications in ABAP for Cloud/RAP, SAP BTP, or SAP Fiori/UI5 are a plus.

What You’ll Work On (Sample Use Cases)

• Creating a RAP-managed business object with draft, validations, and actions; exposing OData V4 and building a Fiori elements LR/OP app.

• Side by side extension on BTP consuming S/4HANA released APIs via destinations with principal propagation; deploying to CF.

• Refactoring classic custom code to RAP: CDS remodel, behavior re implementation, performance tuning, and ATC compliance.
