Core Responsibilities The Associate Legal Counsel II will provide comprehensive legal advice to the various areas of the business in Mexico, ensuring regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, and alignment with general policies. The role will also support the implementation and monitoring of compliance programs, internal policies, ethics and integrity initiatives, training efforts, internal investigations, and compliance-related risk assessments to promote a strong culture of compliance across the organization. This role requires a combination of legal and technical skills, business acumen, and the ability to work effectively across teams,
both internally and externally.
- Supports the Manager Legal Counsel, program updates and general legal assistance.
- Provide timely legal advice on corporate, commercial, regulatory, and operational matters.
- Support various departments (retail, marketing, e-commerce, operations, HR) in identifying and mitigating legal risks.
- Interpret and apply relevant Mexican laws and regulations (civil, commercial, consumer, data protection, advertising, etc.).
- Stays abreast of regulatory compliance and enforcement developments in the product and corporate compliance spaces.
- Interprets laws in the context of the company's activities.
- Provides compliance-related legal guidance regarding products/services, new initiatives, complaints, and issue resolution.
- Monitors for regulatory change, perform analysis of changes, and oversee business implementation of changes in a timely manner.
- Advises various internal business units on compliance and regulatory issues.
- Support the opening and operation of stores.
- Review lease agreements and real estate-related documents.
- Advise on local compliance (civil protection, permits/licenses, etc.).
Qualifications
- University degree or equivalent.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in regulatory compliance or corporate/commercial (law firm or in-house legal department). Experience in global environments and the retail sector is a plus.
- Ability to interpret and provide guidance on laws, rules, and regulations.
- Ability to synthesize complex issues into easy-to-understand requirements or guidelines.
- Experience in retail, consumer goods, e-commerce, or multinational companies is desirable.
- Highly motivated, organized, and team-oriented individual with strong attention to detail.
- Experience managing multiple concurrent priorities and changes in scope or direction.
- Proactive individual capable of working independently, with agility and efficiency.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
