As a Senior Engineer I, Electromechanical Design, you will lead the design, development, and optimization of electromechanical products and subsystems for low-voltage electrical distribution equipment. By integrating strong mechanical engineering fundamentals with working knowledge of electrical distribution systems, you will create innovative, reliable, safe, and manufacturable solutions that address customer requirements, regulatory standards, and business objectives.
You will contribute to the development of power distribution products by designing and optimizing mechanical structures, enclosures, current-carrying assemblies, mounting systems, busbar support structures, and other electromechanical subsystems. Leveraging advanced engineering analysis, simulation, testing, and validation methodologies, you will improve product performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost competitiveness throughout the product lifecycle.
As a technical contributor with specialized expertise, you will solve complex engineering challenges, support new product development initiatives, conduct technical investigations, and drive product improvements. You will also provide technical guidance to less experienced engineers, participate in design reviews, and help ensure engineering quality, consistency, and compliance across projects.
What will you do?
Product Development &
- Technical Leadership
- Lead the development and optimization of electromechanical designs for low-voltage electrical distribution products, platforms, options, and subsystems.
- Translate customer requirements, technical specifications, industry standards, and business objectives into robust engineering solutions.
- Drive technical activities throughout the product development lifecycle, including concept generation, feasibility assessment, detailed design, validation, industrialization, and product launch.
- Support technology roadmaps and contribute to the development of innovative product features and design approaches.
- Participate in design reviews and provide technical guidance to engineers and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Support standardization, modularization, and platform development strategies to improve product competitiveness and scalability.
Electromechanical Product Design
- Design and optimize electromechanical assemblies and mechanical systems used in low-voltage electrical distribution equipment.
- Design and develop sheet metal assemblies, structural frames, mounting systems, busbar support structures, mechanical interlocks, door and enclosure systems, and internal product architectures for low-voltage electrical distribution equipment.
- Optimize designs for manufacturability, assembly efficiency, structural integrity, thermal performance, product standardization, and cost competitiveness while balancing performance, quality, reliability, and customer requirements.
- Support integration of current-carrying systems including busbars, conductors, terminations, and electrical devices while ensuring mechanical robustness and compliance with applicable requirements.
Engineering Verification &
- Validation
- Perform engineering calculations, simulations, and technical analyses to validate design concepts and product performance.
- Apply advanced CAD tools, GD&T; principles, tolerance stack-up analysis, design-for-manufacturing (DFM), and design-for-assembly (DFA) methodologies.
- Perform finite element analysis (FEA), thermal simulations, structural assessments, and mechanical performance evaluations.
- Develop and execute verification and validation plans for new products and design changes.
- Support prototype builds, laboratory testing, issue resolution, root cause investigations, and design corrections.
- Validate mechanical integrity, thermal performance, vibration resistance, environmental durability, and manufacturability requirements.
- Support design verification through prototype evaluations, failure analysis investigations, and corrective action implementation.
- Collaborate with certification and testing organizations to ensure successful product qualification.
Compliance, Quality &
- Continuous Improvement
- Ensure compliance with applicable industry and regulatory requirements including UL, IEC, CSA, NEMA, and Schneider Electric internal standards.
- Apply design-for-safety, design-for-quality, and design-for-reliability principles throughout the product development process.
- Support value engineering, cost reduction, standardization, and product optimization initiatives.
- Document engineering assumptions, technical decisions, lessons learned, and validation results.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to engineering best practices.
- Support continuous improvement activities to improve product quality, manufacturing efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate closely with manufacturing, quality, procurement, supply chain, certification, offer management, and project management teams.
- Support project planning, risk identification, technical issue resolution, and execution of development activities.
- Provide technical mentorship and guidance to less experienced engineers and team members.
- Collaborate effectively with electrical engineers to ensure successful integration of mechanical and electrical subsystems.
- Support general development initiatives and contribute to cross-functional engineering projects.

Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
- Master's Degree is considered a plus.
- Experience in new product development for low-voltage electrical distribution equipment.
- Experience supporting product validation, certification, industrialization, and continuous improvement activities.
- Mechanical &
- Electromechanical Design Knowledge. Strong understanding of mechanical design principles for industrial products and electrical equipment.
- Advanced CAD experience and ability to manage large assemblies and multiple product configurations.
- Experience applying Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T;), tolerance stack-up analysis, Design-for-Manufacturing (DFM), Design-for-Assembly (DFA), and Design-for-Cost methodologies to develop robust, manufacturable, and cost-effective product designs.
- Knowledge of material selection, surface finishes and coatings, corrosion protection methods, mechanical fastening systems, and welding and fabrication processes to ensure optimal performance, durability, manufacturability, and product reliability.
- Understanding current-carrying components, electrical clearance and creepage requirements, grounding and bonding principles, the thermal effects of electrical current, and the impact of short-circuit forces on mechanical design and equipment withstand performance.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with electrical engineers during product development, testing, certification, and product release activities.
- Familiarity with
- UL standards, IEC standards, NEMA standards and CSA standards.
