IMPORTANT:
This position is intended for professionals residing and working remotely in Latin America.
We are not accepting candidates who reside or perform the work within the United States or U.S. territories.
Compensation has been established for the LATAM market and is not based on U.S. compensation standards.
About the Position
Meier Concrete, Inc. is seeking an experienced
Structural Concrete Estimator
to join our Preconstruction team.
We are a Southern California structural concrete subcontractor specializing in multifamily, podium and commercial concrete construction.
This is not a general construction estimating position.
We need someone with direct experience estimating structural concrete who understands not only how to perform a quantity takeoff, but how concrete structures are actually built.
You will work directly with our Chief Estimator, who has more than 40 years of concrete construction and estimating experience
, and with our VDC, estimating and operations teams.
What You'll Do
You will be responsible for taking projects from bid documents through a completed estimate, including:
Perform complete
2D quantity takeoffs from PDF drawings using Bluebeam Revu
Develop detailed estimates for labor, material, equipment, formwork and subcontracted scopes
Estimate foundations, footings, grade beams, pile caps and slabs-on-grade
Estimate elevated and suspended concrete slabs
Estimate shear walls, columns, beams and other vertical structural concrete
Review structural, architectural, civil, MEP and shoring drawings
Understand the interfaces between concrete and framing, MEP, waterproofing and other building systems
Evaluate formwork systems, pour sequencing, access, concrete pumping, cranes, equipment and manpower requirements
Review reinforcing steel and post-tensioning requirements as they relate to our scope and pricing
Identify scope gaps, drawing conflicts and constructability concerns
Develop pre-bid RFIs
Prepare proposal scope, clarifications and exclusions
Assist with subcontractor and supplier pricing
Respond to GC questions and participate in post-bid scope reviews
Maintain multiple active estimates and meet established bid deadlines
Depending on project size and complexity, an estimator should be capable of completing approximately
2–5 bids per month
, inclusive of quantity takeoff and pricing.
What We're Looking For
Required:
Demonstrated experience estimating
structural concrete construction
Strong 2D construction takeoff experience
Experience with Bluebeam Revu
or comparable takeoff software
Experience estimating suspended slabs, foundations, shear walls and columns
Ability to read and coordinate structural, architectural, civil and MEP drawings
Understanding of concrete construction means and methods
Understanding of formwork, shoring, sequencing, manpower and equipment
Strong Microsoft Excel skills
Strong written and spoken English
Ability to independently organize and complete estimates against bid deadlines
Highly Preferred:
Multifamily and
podium construction
experience
Parking structure experience
Post-tensioned concrete experience
Experience estimating projects for U.S. contractors
Familiarity with California construction
Procore experience
Revit/BIM experience
BIM & VDC
Meier Concrete has an internal VDC team that develops structural concrete models using
Revit
.
Our estimating process today is primarily based on
2D PDF takeoffs and Excel-based pricing
.
As our VDC capabilities continue to develop, we intend to progressively incorporate model-based quantity takeoff and estimating into our workflow.
Revit/BIM estimating experience is preferred, but it is not required.
We are first and foremost looking for an experienced structural concrete estimator
. The right candidate should also be interested in learning and contributing to our transition toward model-based estimating in the future.
Who Will Be Successful Here
We're looking for someone who can do more than measure quantities.
A successful estimator should be able to look at a structural concrete project and think about
how we're going to build it
— forming systems, crews, production, sequencing, equipment, access, logistics and risk — and translate that understanding into an accurate and competitive estimate.
You should be comfortable asking questions, identifying missing information, meeting deadlines and taking ownership of your work.
