Junior Legal Counsel – Energy Sector

Location: Mexico

Industry: Energy / Power Generation

About the Role

We are looking for a to join our legal team and support strategic projects within the energy sector. This role is adecuado for a professional with experience in commercial contracts, regulatory matters, project development, and corporate transactions, who is ready to take on increasing responsibility in a dynamic and highly regulated environment.

The position will work closely with senior management and key energy-sector stakeholders and regulators, providing practical and strategic legal advice throughout the development, negotiation, and execution of energy projects.

Key Responsibilities

- Draft, review, negotiate, and execute energy-sector agreements in both Spanish and English, including PPAs, LTSAs, TSAs, structured financing agreements, trusts, and other strategic contracts.
- Conduct negotiations using specialized legal and technical English, adapting contractual provisions to international standards and the expectations of global counterparties.
- Support the design and implementation of complex and innovative legal processes in coordination with key Mexican energy-sector authorities and institutions, including CNE, SENER, CENACE, and CFE.
- Provide legal coordination for public tenders, open competitions, direct awards, and unsolicited proposals involving:
- Electric power infrastructure and public works
- Coal supply
- Advanced energy metering
- Deployment of mobile power generation turbines




- Coordinate regulatory and legal matters from the contract planning stage through project commissioning, particularly for power generation projects involving renewable and clean energy.
- Perform and coordinate legal due diligence for the acquisition of, or investment in, strategic projects, identifying and assessing corporate, financial, tax, real estate, regulatory, and compliance risks.
- Prepare high-level legal opinions, executive summaries, risk matrices, decision memos, and management reports to support informed decision-making by senior leadership.
- Analyze complex technical, legal, financial, and regulatory information and transform it into clear, concise, actionable legal and executive documents tailored to different internal stakeholders.
- Design and implement sophisticated legal structures for strategic transactions, including acquisitions, shareholding arrangements, mergers, and other corporate transactions.
- Coordinate legal strategies related to constitutional proceedings (amparo) when required to safeguard the company's rights and interests.
- Work collaboratively with internal business, technical, commercial, finance, compliance, and regulatory teams.

What We Are Looking For

- Law degree with professional experience in corporate, commercial, regulatory, or energy law.




- Previous experience in the energy, power generation, infrastructure, industrial, or regulated sectors is highly desirable.
- Experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts, preferably within the energy or infrastructure industry.
- Knowledge of the Mexican electricity regulatory framework and experience interacting with, or coordinating matters involving, institutions such as CFE, CENACE, SENER, CRE/CNE, or other relevant authorities.
- Experience participating in legal due diligence processes and strategic transactions.
- Strong ability to analyze complex information, identify legal and business risks, and translate them into practical recommendations for decision-makers.
- Excellent legal writing and communication skills in both Spanish and English.
- Advanced English proficiency, with demonstrated ability to draft and negotiate sophisticated legal and technical agreements.
