Mosaico Mentors

Ciudad de México

Mosaico Mentors is a non-profit that offers holistic, personalized, and professional one-on-one college counseling, vocational orientation, test prep, mentorship, and academic support to middle and high school students.

We are a team of passionate educators who prioritize building relationships of trust and accountability with our students. We guide students to take ownership over their own learning and aim not just to help students succeed academically but to grow as individuals.

Collaboration is integral to our work. We prioritize on-going training for all our mentors and support each other’s individual process with students. Every other week, our mentors meet to research and develop tools, support each other with challenges, and grow as educators.

In addition to our one-on-one mentorship, we are passionate about helping first gen and limited income students access professional and academic opportunities. We received a grant this year to increase the reach and impact of the Aspire Leaders Program in Mexico.

Join Our Team!

We're looking for a skilled, caring, and patient math teacher who is interested in helping students prepare for the math section of the SAT and improve academically in math related school subjects. Due to the fact that most mentors on our team focus their professional development on college counseling and essay writing, we seek a mentor who can focus specifically on teaching math, but experience or an openness to work with the verbal section of the SAT and college counseling work (guiding students through their school list, application, and essays) is a plus!

Hours and Compensation

Since classes fluctuate over the course of the semester, mentors are not guaranteed a certain number of classes. That being said, math mentors typically teach 10-20 hours per month from October to December. This can be increased to 30-40 hours monthly if a mentor chooses to also work with our SAT Verbal and College Guidance students. We also may offer continued work (depending on demand) during the spring and summer months.

This is an idóneo position for someone who has another part-time job in the mornings and is looking for the opportunity to work with students one-on-one on Zoom in the afternoons and evenings on weekdays and/or on weekends during the academic school year. Mentors have flexibility and a level of autonomy over their schedule, while still responding to the needs of our students. We will have a conversation to help you define your schedule.

Mentors are paid

- $750 MXN per hour for Career Planning and Exploration (CPE), College Guidance, and Academic Support classes.
- $700 MXN per hour for Test Prep classes

Every other Tuesday, our mentors participate in paid professional development team meetings. Meetings are two hours long and mentors receive $500 MXN for attending. In these meetings, mentors support one another with school lists, essay revisions, and current challenges with students. Additionally,

opportunities may arise to work with full scholarship students or participate in projects related to our non-profit work.

Desired Credentials

- Bachelor's Degree
- Commitment to helping students grow as people and never doing the work for them
- Experience teaching standard and higher level math, including calculus, ideally with high school students
- Experience teaching the math section of the SAT and/or ACT (familiarity with the various question types, useful strategies for each and for test-taking in general)
- Willingness to learn and take on new challenges
- Extremely self-motivated, excels working independently and in a team
- Teaches with a caring and supportive approach that helps students build confidence
- Fluency to teach math in both English and Spanish, including strong demonstration techniques to help students comprehend math material

The following credentials are preferred, but not required:
- Experience teaching other STEM or IB/AP subjects
- Experience in a mentorship or counseling role
- Experience or an interest in guiding students through college applications for the United States, Canada, Europe and/or other regions
- Experience or an interest in helping students brainstorm, draft, and edit personal essays
- Experience speaking directly with students’ parents and managing expectations
- Living in Mexico City is a plus (to be able to teach occasional workshops at schools), but this position can be fully remote
