Senior IT Operations Manager
Location: Mexico – Remote
Employment Type: Full-Time Contractor – No Benefits
Schedule: U.S. Business Hours
Compensation: MXN $100,000 – $130,000 per month, depending on experience
About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on Senior IT Operations Manager to lead and develop a small technical team supporting IT Operations, end-user services, identity and access management, and cloud/DevOps operations.
This role is ideal for an experienced IT Operations professional who has progressed from systems administration into technical leadership while remaining comfortable working hands-on.
The successful candidate will serve as a technical escalation point, mentor team members, help establish priorities and technical direction, and ensure the stability and continuous improvement of an existing environment.
This is not a pure DevOps or Cloud Architect position. We are looking for a strong IT Operations leader with broad technical experience and enough cloud and DevOps knowledge to effectively manage and guide engineers working in those areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop a small team across IT Operations, Support, and DevOps.
- Serve as a technical escalation point for complex operational and infrastructure issues.
- Remain hands-on with IT administration and troubleshooting when needed.
- Administer and oversee Okta, Google Workspace, identity/access management, SaaS applications, and endpoint environments.
- Manage user lifecycle processes including onboarding, offboarding, SSO, MFA, permissions, and access controls.
- Oversee incidents, service requests, escalations, and change management.
- Provide technical guidance to engineers supporting AWS, Terraform, CI/CD, Datadog, and Snowflake.
- Review technical approaches, identify risks, ask the right questions,
and help the team determine the best path forward.
- Support security and compliance activities, including access reviews, documentation, controls, and SOC 2-related requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve automation, reliability, processes, and operational efficiency.
- Maintain technical documentation, procedures, and knowledge bases.
- Work directly with the CTO and other U.S.-based technical and business stakeholders.
- Oversee and support a primarily macOS-based end-user environment, including device lifecycle, endpoint policies, security controls, troubleshooting, and MDM administration.
- Help team members develop their technical capabilities, independence, and ownership.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in IT Operations, Systems Administration, Infrastructure, Cloud Operations, or related areas.
- Previous experience leading, mentoring, or managing technical professionals.
- Strong hands-on systems administration and troubleshooting experience.
- Strong experience with Okta or similar IAM platforms.
- Strong understanding of SSO, SAML, MFA, SCIM, user provisioning/deprovisioning, and access management.
- Experience administering Google Workspace and enterprise SaaS applications.
- Experience supporting Windows and macOS environments.
- Strong hands-on experience supporting and administering macOS environments, including endpoint management, device provisioning, security policies,
troubleshooting, and MDM platforms such as Kandji, Jamf, or similar
- Experience with endpoint/device management.
- Strong understanding of IT service management, incident management, and technical escalations.
- Working knowledge of AWS and cloud environments.
- Understanding of modern DevOps concepts, including Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, monitoring, and automation.
- Familiarity with security controls and compliance-oriented environments.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong professional English with the ability to work directly with U.S.-based leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with several of the following is highly desirable:
- AWS
- Terraform
- Datadog
- Snowflake
- GitHub / GitHub Actions
- CI/CD pipelines
- Kandji or other MDM platforms
- Jira Service Management / ServiceNow
- SOC 2
- PowerShell, Bash, or Python
- Cloud security and IAM
- Incident and change management
- Automation and AI-assisted IT workflows
What We're Looking For The idóneo candidate combines the technical depth of an experienced IT Operations / Systems Administrator with the leadership and judgment of a technical manager.
You do not need to be the deepest DevOps engineer on the team, but you should understand cloud and DevOps environments well enough to guide engineers, challenge technical approaches when appropriate, recognize risks, and help determine the right direction.
We are looking for someone comfortable moving between people leadership, technical escalations, systems administration, identity and access management, security/compliance, and cloud operations, while keeping an existing environment stable and continuously improving how the team operates.
