English-Speaking Montessori Classroom Assistant | Ages 9–12

Paz Montessori Oaxaca is looking for an English-speaking Classroom Assistant to join our Upper Elementary (ages 9–12) Montessori environment.

We are looking for someone warm, active, observant, responsible, and genuinely interested in working with children. This is not a traditional English-teaching position. The role is designed to support our Lead Montessori Guide while helping English become a natural part of the children’s everyday experience.

Main Responsibilities

- Support the Lead Guide during the Montessori work cycle.
- Communicate naturally with children in English throughout the day.
- Support English-speaking children who are still developing their Spanish and help them feel connected to the classroom community.
- Work with individuals or small groups through reading, writing, conversation, research, and projects in English.
- Observe children and learn when to support and when to step back.
- Assist during transitions, lunch, outdoor activities, and community responsibilities.
- Help maintain a beautiful, organized, and prepared environment.
- Support respectful boundaries, conflict resolution, and positive social interactions.
- Participate in team meetings, Montessori orientation, and professional development.

Who We Are Looking For
- Advanced or native-level English.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Genuine interest in working with children ages 9–12.
- Patient, respectful, responsible, and proactive.
- Comfortable working collaboratively and receiving feedback.
- Able to observe before intervening.




- Interested in learning about Montessori education and the developmental needs of children ages 9–12.
- Comfortable in an active environment that includes movement, outdoor work, nature, projects, and practical responsibilities.

Preferred, but Not Required
- Previous experience working with children.
- Experience in bilingual or multicultural environments.
- Montessori experience or training.
- Familiarity with Positive Discipline, Nonviolent Communication, social-emotional learning, or restorative practices.

Previous Montessori experience is welcome but not required. We value a genuine willingness to learn, observe, collaborate, and understand our approach to supporting children. About the Role The Lead Guide for the environment is Alba Hernández. The Classroom Assistant will work closely with her while respecting the structure, leadership, and principles of the Montessori environment.

This position is not simply about “teaching English.” We want English to be part of real life: conversation, reading, research, projects, presentations, community life, and meaningful relationships.

Paz Montessori will provide guidance and orientation to help the selected candidate understand Montessori philosophy and the developmental characteristics of children in the second plane, particularly ages 9–12.
