Multiplayer Game Programmer (Unity / C#)
Client: Indie game studio currently in the rebuild phase of their flagship 3D online multiplayer game. The project is funded with a sufficient runway.
Role Type: Full-time contractor, remote, requiring overlap with LATAM / Eastern Europe / Asia time zones (UTC-6 to UTC-3).
Compensation: $400 - $600 USD per month. This will be explicitly communicated to candidates upfront.
Role Summary: This role is for a systems programmer who will own gameplay systems end-to-end. You will take a game design concept from the designer and be responsible for its implementation, testing, and delivery as a complete owner. The project is a server-authoritative multiplayer Unity game. This position is to replace a departing team member.
Core Responsibilities:
- Develop systems architecture for gameplay features.
- Implement server-authoritative multiplayer functionality (preferably using Mirror or a comparable framework).
- Work on core gameplay systems including Combat, Inventory, Connection protocols, and Registration/Server architecture.
- Maintain Git repository hygiene, including effective conflict resolution.
- Contribute to build pipeline and infrastructure tasks.
- Participate in code reviews and team communication.
Required Experience:
- Proven experience shipping online multiplayer Unity games.
- Strong C# fundamentals with the ability to think about engine-agnostic architecture.
- Experience with Mirror networking or a comparable framework, with a willingness to learn Mirror.
- Proficiency with the Unity Profiler and debugger-driven development workflows.
- Confidence in using Git, including rebases, conflict resolution, and branch strategy.
Disqualifiers (will result in auto-filtering):
- Only single-player or peer-to-peer shipping experience.
- Specialization in Frontend/UI/UX without systems experience.
- Pure gameplay scripters lacking systems or networking experience.
- Reliance on trial-and-error debugging methods.
- Inability to resolve Git merge conflicts independently.
- Candidates demanding compensation above the stated band.
Time Zone Requirement: Working hours must overlap with UTC-6 to UTC-3 (e.g., Mexico, Central America, Colombia, Peru, Argentina, Brazil, or Eastern Europe with morning overlap).
Engagement Details:
- This is a full-time contractor position through Salas Staffing.
- The role requires an immediate start with overlap for handoff through mid-June.
- A long-term engagement is intended, not a short-term contract.
- Compensation is $400 - $600 USD per month, to be stated to candidates upfront.
