Role Overview The Data Engineer will play a pivotal role in the BI Data Discovery and Assessment programme. This position is responsible for data landscape discovery, profiling, and quality assessment across multiple systems and units. The engineer will ensure that the client's future BI dashboards and architecture are built on trusted, well-documented, and high-quality data foundations.
Key Responsibilities
Data Landscape Discovery
- Inventory databases, spreadsheets, third-party platforms, and external inputs
- Map data capture, storage, transfer, and consumption flows
- Document integration points, dependencies, and entity-relationship views
Data Profiling & Quality Assessment
- Conduct read-only profiling and representative sampling of priority sources
- Assess completeness, accuracy, consistency, timeliness, uniqueness, and structural integrity
- Identify duplicates, missing fields, inconsistent naming, and free-text issues
- Diagnose root causes and recommend remediation actions
Quality Scoring & Remediation
- Score issues by severity, business impact, recurrence, and remediation effort
- Produce a Data Quality Assessment Report with quantified findings
- Collaborate with unit focal points to validate findings and record limitations
ETL/ELT & Architecture Inputs
- Support design of ETL/ELT processes for Azure/Power BI integration
- Provide technical inputs for architecture recommendations (data lake vs. warehouse)
- Ensure operational/analytical separation and readiness for BI workloads
Collaboration & Reporting
- Work closely with the Project Lead, Business Analyst, and Power BI Developer
- Contribute to weekly progress updates, evidence registers, and decision logs
- Support roadmap sequencing by highlighting data dependencies and remediation priorities
Required Skills & Experience
- 3 years of experience in data engineering, data quality, or a related field
- Strong expertise in data profiling, cleansing, and quality assessment
- Hands-on experience with SQL, relational databases, and data-flow mapping
- Familiarity with Microsoft Azure, Power BI, Dynamics GP, Zoho CRM, SRMI, or similar systems
- Knowledge of ETL/ELT pipelines, schema design, and entity-relationship modeling
- Ability to diagnose root causes of data issues and propose sustainable remediation
- Excellent documentation and validation skills, ensuring traceable evidence for BI decisions
Engagement Model
- On-site focus: Unit workshops, supervised system-access reviews, validation sessions, final presentation
- Remote focus: Profiling, analysis, documentation, remediation logic, report preparation
- Travel: This role may require availability to travel for on-site work with the client
Compensation
MXN $35,000 – $40,000 per month, depending on the candidate's skills and experience.
