Head of Business Development – Lending Partnerships, Mexico
5+ Years Experience
Location: Mexico Employment Type: Full-time Department: Business Development / Financial Partnerships
About the Role
We are looking for a highly experienced Senior Business Development Manager / Head of Lending Partnerships to build and lead our lending partnership ecosystem in Mexico.
This is a key role in our new business. You will be responsible for identifying and securing strategic partnerships with major ecosystem players, including telecom operators, smartphone manufacturers, e-commerce platforms, payment companies, SaaS platforms, and other large-scale digital channels.
The idóneo candidate is a strong hunter and deal maker with deep knowledge of the Mexican market, an established local network, and a proven track record of closing strategic partnerships in financial services, fintech, lending, payments, or digital platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Build the Partnership Strategy
Develop and execute the local partnership strategy for our lending business.
Identify priority ecosystems, target partners, and partnership opportunities based on customer scale, traffic quality, data availability, credit potential, and commercial attractiveness.
Build a structured partner pipeline and establish a scalable partnership acquisition framework.
Develop a clear prioritization framework for short-term opportunities and long-term strategic accounts.
- Own Strategic Partnerships
Lead end-to-end negotiations with major strategic partners in Mexico.
Build relationships with senior executives and key decision makers at target organizations.
Design partnership structures, commercial models, and go-to-market strategies.
Lead complex negotiations involving commercial terms, customer acquisition, data cooperation, product integration, marketing, and revenue sharing.
Drive deals from initial contact → business proposal → negotiation → legal → signing → launch.
- Develop Local Market & Channel Intelligence
Maintain deep knowledge of the Mexican fintech, lending, payments, telecom, e-commerce, and digital platform landscape.
Track competitor partnerships, market trends, channel economics, and emerging opportunities.
Identify white-space opportunities where we can establish partnerships ahead of competitors.
- Partner Quality & Risk Management
Evaluate potential partners from commercial, operational, regulatory, reputational, and credit-risk perspectives.
Work closely with Risk and Product teams to assess customer quality and expected credit performance.
Ensure partnership economics are evaluated based on traffic quality, CAC, credit performance, LTV, and overall unit economics, rather than traffic volume alone.
Establish mechanisms for ongoing partner performance monitoring and optimization.
- Build the BD Organization
Help establish the local BD function and partnership management processes.
Develop partner segmentation, pipeline management, forecasting, and performance tracking mechanisms.
Mentor junior BD team members and help build a high-performance local BD organization.
Requirements
5+ years of experience in Business Development, Strategic Partnerships, Financial Services, FinTech, Consumer Lending, Payments, Telecom, E-commerce, or Digital Platforms.
Strong understanding of the Mexican financial and digital ecosystem.
Proven track record of sourcing and closing large-scale strategic partnerships.
Strong existing network among Mexican telecom operators, OEMs, payment platforms, e-commerce companies, SaaS platforms, fintechs, or other major digital ecosystems.
Experience in consumer lending, credit cards, BNPL, fintech, digital banking, payments, or related financial products is highly preferred.
Strong commercial judgment and negotiation skills.
Ability to understand and evaluate customer acquisition economics and credit risk.
Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
Fluent in Spanish and English, with strong professional English communication skills.
Strong ownership, execution capability, and ability to operate independently in an entrepreneurial environment.
Comfortable working in an ambiguous, fast-growing business and building processes from 0 to 1.
Preferred Qualifications
Existing C-level / VP-level relationships with major Mexican ecosystem players.
Existing relationships with major traffic channels or financial ecosystem players in Mexico is highly preferred.
Proven experience building partnerships for consumer financial products.
Experience working in a fast-growing fintech or startup.
- Experience working with international or Chinese technology companies is a plus.
