• McDonnell is actively recruiting a Senior Electrical Engineer to join this segment of our growing business. This position requires an experienced electrical engineer capable of successfully solving complex problems that require adaptation, modification, and innovative application of standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.
The Senior Electrical
Engineer will lead the design, planning, and client coordination activities associated with high, medium, and low voltage electrical distribution and control systems.
Coordinate with Burns & McDonnell counterparts to understand the scope of work, provide discipline leadership, and ensure project deadlines are met. Design electrical systems and equipment to support safe, reliable, and high‑availability environments required in mission‑critical facilities.
Advise strategic guidance to clients on electrical system options and code‑compliant solutions that meet reliability and uptime requirements. Quality review of the construction administration including coordination with field personnel to resolve design related installation issues, calculations, field inspections and testing of electrical systems to ensure compliance with design documents and safety codes. Conduct power system studies including load flow, short-circuit and develop criteria for protective device coordination to support arc-flash analysis and develop compliant arc-flash labeling under the safest viable operating conditions.
Develop and/or lead electrical design from conceptual phase through design completion for large scale projects including main electrical equipment specifications, one-line diagrams and power distribution, photometric analysis and lighting design, grounding systems. Review electrical equipment vendor drawings and specifications to ensure client requirements are met.
Provide electrical design direction and resource management on multi‑discipline projects.
Inform design teams on local codes and electrical engineering best practices. Support project schedule, scope, budget, and change‑management activities. Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related degree from an engineering program .
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish (working closely with US team colleagues) or (reporting to US).
Engineering
License to practice in Mexico preferred; Strong knowledge of electrical equipment design, ANSI and IEEE standards, and applicable Mexican electrical codes.
Experience utilizing SKM, CYMCAP, AGI32 or similar electrical analysis tools. Expert knowledge of standard engineering techniques and procedures. Proficiency in AutoCAD, BIM (Revit), 3D coordination tools, and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Experience leading electrical discipline teams and delegating tasks on large complex projects. Ability to perform quality reviews for electrical engineering documents and specifications. Must be capable of devising new approaches to solving engineering challenges.
Willingness to work with AI‑enabled engineering tools and digital workflows. 7+ years of electrical engineering experience. ~ EPC project experience ~ Data center or telecom facility experience. ~ Experience supporting proposals, estimates, and project planning activities. ~ Experience mentoring junior engineers or developing electrical engineering standards. ~ S. electrical design practices or multinational project delivery environments. ~
