About the Role
This Immigration Legal Assistant is a foundational, client-facing, and back-end role that supports the client onboarding experience and enables the case to begin as effectively and completely as possible. This role moves immigration cases forward efficiently, accurately, and compassionately. You will gain hands-on experience across family-based and humanitarian immigration matters — work that is both deeply educational and genuinely rewarding.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond to client requests for information and communication in a timely, professional manner
- Provide and collect immigration questionnaires
- Conduct proactive outreach and client onboarding guidance to move cases forward
- Conduct proactive outreach to gather as much evidence and provide checklists
- Prepare, fill out, and assemble immigration application forms and packets
- Collaborate on case lists, deadlines, milestones, and case progress notes
- Audit and update case lists
- Collaborate with other legal team members and attorneys for smooth case transitions
- Actively engage with attorneys and legal staff on case processes and legal questions
Qualifications
- Advanced written and spoken English and Spanish — this is a hard requirement (reading,
speaking, comprehension, and writing)
- Strong writing, revision, and editing skills
- An analytical mindset and a rigorous approach to evaluating evidence
- High attention to detail, strong time management, and organizational discipline
- Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced remote environment
- Ability to audit and update case lists of up to 20+ cases
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and comfort with learning new technology tools
- Windows computer highly preferred
Contractor Terms
- This is an independent contractor position, not an employee role
- You are responsible for your own taxes under Mexican law
- No U.S. employee benefits are provided
- Paid U.S. holiday breaks, daily wellness breaks, and other performance-based bonuses.
- Structured Rest Period Allowances.
- You will be required to sign an independent contractor agreement
- Base compensation is determined by experience and paid in USD
- 40 project hours per week, Monday-Friday, U.S. Mountain Time.
