About the Job Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
SURLIV | Engineering Services is looking for a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team for an initial 3-month contract, with a strong possibility of extension through the end of the year. We are seeking a seasoned professional with a robust background in advanced CAD modeling and engineering analysis, who can hit the ground running, bringing technical expertise, cross-functional collaboration, and a precision-oriented mindset to projects working directly with teams in the United States.
Key Responsibilities
Develop high-quality, fully parametric 3D models and detailed manufacturing drawings, strictly adhering to internal SOPs and data management standards.
Work effectively within collaborative CAD environments and shared multi-user structures, ensuring clean file management, proper use of configurations, and conflict-free data integration (Check-in/Check-out, PLM, or shared servers).
Support design cycles from conceptualization, requirements translation, and interface design, through to factory readiness, prototyping, and validation testing.
Provide proactive project updates and effective communication regarding project milestones, design reviews, and technical bottlenecks to both local management and United States stakeholders.
Perform advanced technical analysis, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T;), stack-up tolerances, and clearance/clash verification in complex moving mechanisms.
Evaluate and propose design optimizations for performance, manufacturability (DFM), and cost-effectiveness (cost reduction initiatives).
Actively contribute to talent development, providing coaching, mentorship,
and technical guidance to junior and mid-level engineers within the team.
Requirements
Experience: 8+ years of experience in mechanical design and applications engineering (background in advanced manufacturing, industrial systems, or heavy machinery is highly preferred).
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (a Master’s degree in Design or Manufacturing is a plus).
Software & CAD Tools: Proficiency in SolidWorks (including configuration management, large assembly optimization, and manufacturing workbenches like Sheet Metal and Weldments). Additional multi-CAD experience (e.g., CATIA, Onshape, or NX) and PLM/file-management tool workflows are preferred.
Material Standards & DFM: Extensive experience and deep understanding of commercial metallic material standards, including advanced knowledge of structural profiles (Weldments/structural frames), commercial sheet metal gauges and sheet sizes to optimize material yield and manufacturing processes.
Technical Skills: Deep knowledge of GD&T;, tolerance stack-up analysis, material selection, and diverse manufacturing processes (such as precision metal fabrication, sheet metal, welding, and 3D printing/rapid prototyping).
Interdisciplinary Skills: Strong familiarity or hands-on experience with automation, control systems, and electronic components integration within mechanical assemblies is highly valued.
Mindset & Leadership: Proven leadership skills with the ability to work independently and without supervision. Exceptional teamwork and interpersonal skills.
Language: Full professional proficiency in English is required (frequent communication and collaboration with teams in the United States).
Type: Contract (3 months with high extension potential).
