Job DescriptionThe Manager, Commodity is a mid-level management role responsible for leading commodity management strategy and execution to support cost competitiveness, supply continuity, quality, and risk mitigation.
This role manages commodity professionals and/or supplier portfolios and serves as the strategic owner for assigned commodities across sourcing, contracting, and supplier performance.
The Manager, Commodity has a direct impact on cost structure, supply assurance, and alignment between Procurement and broader business objectives.Responsibilities and dutiesLead, coach, and develop Commodity Managers, Buyers, or Sourcing SpecialistsSet performance expectations tied to cost, quality, delivery, and risk objectivesConduct performance reviews, coaching, and development planningSupport hiring, onboarding, and capability development.Develop and execute commodity strategies aligned with business and supply chain objectivesAnalyze market trends, capacity, cost drivers, and supply risksDefine sourcing approaches, supplier segmentation, and make buy strategiesDrive competitive sourcing, negotiation, and contracting activitiesOwn strategic supplier relationships within assigned commoditiesMonitor supplier performance related to cost, quality, delivery, and innovationLead business reviews and corrective action plans for underperforming suppliersServe as escalation point for supplier issues or disputesDrive cost reduction, cost avoidance,



and value creation initiativesLead negotiations for pricing, terms, and commercial agreementsIdentify and mitigate supply, geopolitical, and market risksPartner with Finance to ensure alignment with budgets and forecastsCollaborate with Engineering and Product teams on design to cost and standardizationPartner with Operations, Quality, and Planning to ensure supply continuitySupport new product introductions and change management activitiesAlign procurement decisions with operational and customer requirementsEnsure compliance with procurement policies, ethical standards, and controlsStandardize sourcing processes, tools, and documentationTrack KPIs related to cost, performance, and supply riskIdentify opportunities to improve sourcing efficiency and effectivenessEducation, Experience and SkillsBachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or related field5+ experience in procurement or supply chain management, with at least two years in a managerial roleStrong negotiation skills and ability to build and maintain relationships with suppliersExcellent analytical skills with attention to detailStrong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally with stakeholders at all levels of the organizationProficiency in procurement software and technology, including ERP systemsUnderstanding of relevant laws and regulations related to procurementCertification in procurement or supply chain management is preferred
