The Tax Manager is responsible for overseeing Mexican tax matters for the companys timeshare resort and hospitality operations. The role manages direct and indirect tax compliance, tax accounting, audits, tax planning initiatives, transfer pricing matters, and business advisory support for resort, sales, marketing, financing, and property development activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Tax Compliance
Manage the preparation, review, and filing of Mexican tax returns.
Oversee corporate income tax compliance, annual tax returns, estimated tax payments, and related workpapers.
Manage monthly VAT compliance, including input VAT recoveries, indirect tax reporting, and supporting documentation.
Coordinate payroll tax, social security, and employment tax reporting with Human Resources and payroll teams.
Ensure compliance with occupancy, tourism, lodging, and other resortrelated local taxes.
Monitor electronic invoicing requirements, including CFDI documentation and related tax support.
Tax Accounting and Reporting
Manage quarterly and annual tax provision processes under Mexican and or U.S. GAAP, as applicable.
Prepare and review tax account reconciliations, current tax balances, deferred tax items, and tax reserves.
Support statutory audits, external financial statement audits, and internal control requirements.
Maintain documentation supporting tax positions, accounting treatments, and tax return filings.
Transfer Pricing and Intercompany Matters
Coordinate transfer pricing documentation, local file requirements, and supporting analyses.
Review intercompany transactions for compliance with Mexican and international transfer pricing requirements.
Support implementation and maintenance of intercompany agreements for services, royalties, financing, development, management, and relatedparty arrangements.
Coordinate with general tax teams on crossborder transactions, withholding tax, permanent establishment considerations, and business restructurings.
Audit and Controversy Management
Serve as a point of contact for Mexican tax authority audits, examinations, notices, and information requests.
Prepare and coordinate responses to tax authority inquiries with finance, legal, external advisors, and global tax leadership.
Monitor assessments, contingencies, and dispute resolution matters, including evaluation of potential tax exposures.
Business Advisory and Planning
Advise management on Mexican tax implications of new resort developments, acquisitions, renovations, sales structures, financing arrangements, and operational initiatives.
Identify tax planning and process efficiency opportunities that align with business objectives and applicable law.
Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and communicate impacts to management and relevant stakeholders.
CrossFunctional Collaboration
Partner with accounting, legal, treasury, operations, sales, marketing, development, human resources, and external advisors.
Support budgeting, forecasting, cash tax planning, and tax payment processes.
Assist with ERP, tax technology, data,
and process improvement initiatives affecting tax compliance and reporting.
Promote strong documentation, controls, and consistent procedures across Mexican tax workflows.
To fulfill this role successfully, you must possess the following minimum qualifications and experience Degree in accounting, tax or finance. Licenciatura en Contabilidad, Impuestos o Finanzas.
5 to 8 years of tax experience in public accounting and or multinational corporate tax.
Strong knowledge of Mexican corporate income tax, VAT, and electronic invoicing requirements.
Experience managing tax audits, notices, or government examinations.
Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with ERP systems. It would be advantageous in this position for you to demonstrate the following capabilities and distinctions CPA, Mexican Contador Publico Certificado, or equivalent professional designation.
Experience in hospitality, vacation ownership, timeshare, real estate, or resort operations.
Experience with transfer pricing and multinational corporate structures.
Familiarity with U.S.Mexico crossborder tax matters.
Experience supporting resort development, real estate transactions, or customer financing activities.
Experience with Oracle, Hyperion, or similar tax and ERP tools.
Knowledge of Mexican and U.S. GAAP tax accounting principles.
