What’s the job?
The Launch Engineer is responsible for the successful industrialisation and launch of specific automotive programmes. The role will coordinate all launch activities from equipment installation and process development through to customer approval, SOP and ramp-up, ensuring safety, quality, delivery and cost targets are achieved.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead all manufacturing launch activities for the designated programme.
- Develop and maintain detailed launch plans, timing schedules and risk registers.
- Coordinate cross-functional activities between Operations, Quality, Engineering, Tooling, Supply Chain and Project Management.
- Support installation, commissioning and validation of new manufacturing and assembly equipment.
- Ensure manufacturing readiness for customer milestones, run-at-rate events and SOP.
- Drive issue resolution during launch using structured problem-solving methodologies.
- Coordinate prototype, pilot and pre-production builds.
- Establish standard work, visual management and training materials for production teams.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce labour content, waste and variation.
- Support capacity planning and workforce readiness activities.
- Ensure all launch activities comply with Mergon safety standards and customer requirements.
- Manage engineering changes and coordinate implementation within manufacturing operations.
- Support customer visits, audits and programme reviews.
- Maintain accurate launch documentation and lessons learned.
- Deliver a stable, capable manufacturing process capable of meeting volume, quality and cost objectives
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial or Process Engineering.
- 3-5+ years' experience in automotive manufacturing, NPI or launch engineering.
- Experience with assembly operations, automation and manufacturing process development.
- Strong understanding of APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plans and MSA.
- Experience managing cross-functional projects in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, customer relationship building and project management skills.
- Fluent English and Spanish desirable.

- Successful launch to customer timing.
- Safe implementation of all launch activities.
- Achievement of customer quality targets.
- Achievement of planned cycle times and labour standards.
- Successful completion of PPAP and customer approvals.
- Stable production ramp-up with minimal disruption.
- Delivery of launch budget and productivity objectives.
This role is particularly suited to someone who can bridge project management, manufacturing engineering and operational execution, effectively acting as the on-site owner of the Ford launch from equipment installation through stable production.
