Ciudad Juárez
Boyd Thermal by Eaton is seeking a Global Head of Quality based out of our Juarez Mexico location.
Primary Function:
The Global Head of Quality – Thermal CDU is the senior leader accountable for quality strategy, systems, and execution across the company's Coolant Distribution Unit (CDU) product line — a core component of liquid cooling infrastructure for data centers and high-density compute (AI/HPC) environments. This role owns product quality from design through manufacturing, field deployment, and lifecycle support, ensuring CDUs meet demanding reliability, leak-prevention, thermal-performance, and uptime requirements for hyperscale and enterprise data center customers. This position is based in Juarez, Mexico supporting global efforts reporting to the Senior VP of Thermal Solutions Global Operations.
The successful candidate will partner closely with global Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Field Service teams, as well as key suppliers (pumps, heat exchangers, sensors, manifolds, etc.) and hyperscale/enterprise customers, to build a zero-leak, zero-downtime quality culture across a global manufacturing and deployment footprint.
Essential Functions:
- Define and execute the global quality strategy for the Thermal CDU product portfolio, aligned with corporate quality and reliability objectives.
- Design and implement a standardized global APQP/PPAP phase-gating framework to ensure a seamless transition from NPI to Mass Production by establishing rigid quality gates.
- Establish and scale a disciplined global 8D root-cause and D7 Lessons Learned program across all facilities and sub-tier suppliers to rapidly resolve thermal or fluid anomalies, permanently standardizing preventive actions back into global engineering standards, product design rules, and QMS procedures to prevent recurrence
- Serve as the executive quality voice in product development and operations governance, advising leadership on quality risk, field reliability data, and readiness for new product introductions (NPI).
- Build and lead a general quality organization spanning design assurance, manufacturing quality, supplier quality, and field/reliability engineering.
- Own the Quality Management System (QMS) governing CDU design, manufacturing, and service,
ensuring compliance with ISO 9001 and relevant industry standards.
- Drive Design for Reliability (DfR) and Design for Manufacturability (DfM) practices in partnership with Engineering, with particular focus on leak prevention, coolant chemistry compatibility, and long-term mechanical/electrical reliability under continuous duty cycles.
- Establish and monitor product reliability metrics (MTBF, leak rate, DOA rate, field failure rate) and drive continuous improvement against targets.
- Oversee incoming, in-process, and final inspection programs across global manufacturing sites and contract manufacturers.
- Lead root cause analysis and CAPA processes for manufacturing defects, with emphasis on leak testing, weld/braze integrity, pump and sensor qualification, and pressure testing protocols.
- Ensure robust process control (SPC, FMEA, control plans) across critical-to-quality manufacturing steps.
- Establish and manage the global supplier quality program for critical components (pumps, heat exchangers, manifolds, quick-disconnects, sensors, PLCs/controllers).
- Lead supplier audits, qualifications, and scorecards; drive supplier corrective action for component-level failures, particularly those affecting leak integrity or thermal performance.
- Partner with Supply Chain on supplier selection and risk mitigation from a quality standpoint.
- Own field quality and reliability programs, including failure analysis, escalation management, and warranty/RMA data trending for deployed CDUs.
- Serve as the senior quality escalation point for hyperscale and enterprise customers on critical field issues (e.g., leaks, downtime events), coordinating rapid containment and root cause resolution.
- Support customer quality audits, qualification processes, and quality business reviews (QBRs).
- Ensure product and site compliance with relevant safety, environmental, and industry certifications (UL, CE, RoHS, ISO 9001/14001, etc.).
- Lead readiness for customer audits, third-party certifications, and internal/external quality audits across the manufacturing network.
- Champion a "zero-leak, zero-downtime" quality culture across engineering, manufacturing, and field service organizations.
- Drive Lean/Six Sigma and continuous improvement initiatives to reduce defect rates and improve first-pass yield.
- Monitor industry trends in liquid cooling, data center thermal standards, and coolant technologies to keep quality systems current.
Qualifications
Basic qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Quality, Mechanical, Electrical, or Manufacturing Engineering, or related field required; advanced degree preferred.
- 5-10 years of progressive quality leadership experience in thermal management, data center infrastructure, or precision electromechanical manufacturing, including 5+ years in a senior/global leadership role.
- Demonstrated experience leading global manufacturing quality and supplier quality programs.
- Proven track record managing field reliability programs and driving root cause resolution for hardware deployed in mission-critical environments.
- Strong knowledge of ISO 9001, and familiarity with relevant electrical/safety certifications, and data center standards.
- Excellent executive presence and communication skills, with experience engaging hyperscale/enterprise customers on quality escalations.
Preferred:
- Direct experience with Coolant Distribution Units, rear-door heat exchangers, or direct-to-chip liquid cooling systems.
- Experience supporting hyperscale data center customers (e.g., cloud providers, AI infrastructure companies) through qualification and deployment.
- Six Sigma Black Belt or equivalent continuous improvement certification.
- Experience scaling quality organizations during high-growth manufacturing ramp (e.g., AI/HPC infrastructure demand growth).
- Familiarity with coolant chemistry, corrosion/erosion mechanisms, and material compatibility in closed-loop cooling systems.
Additional Information:
- Travel (Including international) may be required up to 50% of the time
- Opportunity to gain exposure to and work with many cross functional teams
- Exposure to senior leaders within the Electrical Sector businesses
