RSU 16 is seeking qualified Substitute School Nurses to support our five schools located in the towns of Poland, Minot, and Mechanic Falls. Substitute nurses play a vital role in promoting the health and safety of students and staff by providing primary health services, managing chronic and acute conditions, and responding to emergencies in the absence of the regular school nurse.

Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited LPN or RN program

Current Maine LPN or RN license

Current BLS certification

Valid CHRC (Criminal History Record Check) with fingerprinting, as required by the Maine Department of Education

Minimum of one year of pediatric nursing experience preferred (or equivalent experience in acute care, public/community health, or home health care settings)

Knowledge of childhood illnesses and chronic conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes, seizures)

Ability to perform skilled nursing tasks such as: Catheterization, Suctioning, Gastrostomy tube feedings, Insulin pump management, Nebulizer treatments

Responsibilities





Administer medications and treatments in compliance with state regulations and district policies

Provide emergency and routine health care to students, staff, and visitors

Promote student wellness and disease prevention

Act as a liaison between home and school regarding student health concerns

Deliver care based on 504 Plans, Individual Health Care Plans (IHCPs), and Emergency Care Plans

Maintain accurate documentation in the district’s electronic health record system

Support communicable disease prevention and awareness efforts

Conduct health education and provide guidance to students and families

Assist with health screenings (vision, hearing, etc.)

Work takes place in any of the five schools across RSU 16

$201.25 per 7 hr day
