This position requires someone with excellent technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate with engineering teams in Mexico, Japan, and the United States.
Responsibilities:
- Design and modify resin injection molds for automotive components.
- Review product geometry and draft angles.
- Define parting lines (PL), gate locations, runner layouts, cooling systems, slides, lifters, and ejector pin placement.
- Improve existing mold designs by identifying and correcting molding defects.
- Support mold troubleshooting after trial runs, including:
- Flash
- Burrs
- Sink marks
- Short shots
- Warpage
- Gas traps
- Mold release issues
- Review 2D and 3D drawings, tolerances, assembly drawings, and part drawings.
- Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure molds are practical, maintainable, and production-ready.
Qualifications:
Required
- 5+ years of experience designing plastic injection molds.
- Experience with automotive plastic components.
- Strong understanding of:
- Mold structures
- Cooling systems
- Gates and runners
- Slides and lifters
- Knowledge of CNC machining, EDM, WEDM, polishing, and mold assembly.
- Experience modifying existing molds rather than only designing new molds.
- Ability to identify molding defects and implement design improvements.
- Proficiency using one or more of the following software:
- NX
- CATIA
- Cimatron
- SolidWorks
- AutoCAD
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings in English.
Preferred
- Moldflow experience.
- CAM experience.
- Mold maintenance experience.
- Experience working with Japanese manufacturing standards.
