Role Description This full-time, on-site Buyer – Chemical Raw Materials position is based in Mexico City, Mexico. The Buyer is responsible for managing the end-to-end procurement cycle for chemical raw materials, including identifying suppliers, requesting quotations, negotiating pricing and terms, and issuing purchase orders. Daily activities include monitoring inventory levels, coordinating with production and logistics teams to ensure material availability, and tracking delivery schedules to prevent supply disruptions.
The role involves evaluating supplier performance, maintaining accurate purchasing records, and supporting cost-optimization and quality initiatives. The Buyer collaborates closely with internal stakeholders to align purchasing decisions with operational requirements, safety standards, and regulatory compliance.
Qualifications
- 3 to 5 years of experience in Purchasing, preferably in: o Chemical industry, Raw materials Plastics Coatings Adhesives, Construction or related industries.
- Strong purchasing and procurement skills,
including experience managing chemical raw materials with domestic and international suppliers.
- Proficiency in handling purchase orders and maintaining accurate purchasing documentation within ERP or similar systems.
- Analytical skills to evaluate pricing, demand, lead times, and supplier performance for data-driven decisions.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with suppliers, production, logistics, and finance teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Business, Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Knowledge of chemical industry supply chains, safety standards, and basic regulatory considerations is highly beneficial.
- Ability to work on-site in Mexico City, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency with spreadsheets and procurement software; experience with ERP systems is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail, negotiation skills, and a commitment to ethical, compliant purchasing practices.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Purchasing & negotiation • Source, evaluate, and develop domestic and international suppliers. • Request, compare, and analyze quotes. • Negotiate pricing, payment terms, price validity periods, and lead times.
• Continuously identify opportunities to reduce costs and improve commercial terms. • Keep pricing and purchasing terms up to date.
Supplier development • Build and maintain a strong supplier portfolio by product. • Develop alternative suppliers to avoid reliance on a single source. • Evaluate suppliers based on price, quality, availability, lead times, and reliability. • Maintain ongoing communication and negotiation with suppliers.
Planning & Follow-Up • Create and follow up on purchase orders. • Track production, shipping, and arrival dates. • Anticipate potential delays and develop alternatives. • Coordinate with the relevant teams to ensure on-time supply. • Closely monitor issues through to resolution. • Project development (introducing new products or reactivating existing products)
International Trade • Working knowledge of Incoterms. • Follow-up on import operations. • Coordination and communication with international suppliers. • Review and follow up on documentation related to operations. • Early identification of potential logistics or documentation risks.
Market Analysis • Conduct market research and price analysis. • Identify trends and buying opportunities. • Compare different supply sources. • Prepare reports on pricing, suppliers, and market behavior. • Recommend purchasing strategies based on data and analysis.
