JOB DESCRIPTION
The Manager, Government Relations will serve as Vertiv's primary liaison with federal and state government entities in Mexico, playing a critical role in advocating for the company's policy and commercial interests. This position functions as a strategic enabler and problem solver - building and leveraging high-level diplomatic relationships with government officials, regulatory agencies, and industry associations to facilitate business operations, secure incentives, and influence policy outcomes favorable to Vertiv's growth in Mexico.
Government Relations & Diplomatic Engagement
Develop and maintain strategic relationships with key government stakeholders at federal and state levels across Mexico
Represent Vertiv in diplomatic settings, presenting the company's value proposition as a leading American AI infrastructure company investing in Mexico's future
Navigate bilateral Mexico-USA relations through participation in organizations such as the US-Mexico Council and similar forums
Act as a diplomatic liaison for foreign affairs matters (Relaciones Exteriores) impacting Vertiv's operations
Lobbying, Advocacy & Policy Influence
Lead lobbying efforts to influence policies, regulations, and legislation that impact Vertiv's business operations in Mexico
Proactively advocate for favorable trade frameworks
Influence policy outcomes for Vertiv's Compliance teams - acting as a policy shaper rather than a policy taker
Present Vertiv's challenges and opportunities in government forums to accelerate solutions and favorable outcomes
Commercial Enablement & Incentives
Facilitate resolution of commercial challenges with government entities
Partner with Sales teams (working alongside commercial leaders) to facilitate government-related barriers to business
Guide internal teams on certification processes and government requirements
Industry Engagement & Trade Associations
Actively participate and represent Vertiv in trade associations, industry associations, chambers of commerce, and bilateral business councils
Leverage chamber and association memberships to facilitate government interventions on behalf of Vertiv
Build coalitions with industry peers to advance shared policy interests
Stay current on Mexico's political landscape,
regulatory changes, and government priorities
Collaboration & Communication
Communicate regulatory, legislative, and political developments to internal stakeholders across Legal, Compliance, Sales, and Operations
Prepare briefing materials, reports, and presentations on government relations activities and political risk assessments
Coordinate with the Public Relations team (note: this role is NOT media-facing or sales-oriented - it is focused on government and institutional relationships)
Support the broader Government Relations team on cross-border and Americas-wide initiatives
This Role Is Not
A Public Relations / Media role (no press or media responsibilities)
A Sales role (though it enables commercial outcomes)
A passive compliance/regulatory monitoring role - this is an active influence and lobbying position
Qualifications
Minimum 7 years of experience in government relations, government affairs, lobbying, public policy, or diplomatic roles in Mexico
Demonstrated network of relationships with Mexican government officials at federal and state levels
Deep understanding of Mexico's regulatory processes, government structures, and political landscape
Proven experience in lobbying and policy negotiation with measurable outcomes
Strong diplomatic skills - ability to navigate complex political situations with tact and professionalism
Strong sales-oriented mindset - ability to sell Vertiv's value proposition to government stakeholders
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills in both Spanish and English
Proactive, decisive, and able to work independently across a broad variety of subjects
Strong detail orientation with demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
Highly collaborative and team-oriented; able to build relationships at all levels of the organization
Resourceful problem solver with ability to manage complex, sensitive situations and confidential information
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in law, International Relations, Diplomacy, International Business, 10+ years of related work experience in government affairs or lobbying in Mexico
Existing relationships with officials in key government agencies (SAT, Secretaría de Economía, Hacienda, etc.)
Experience in the manufacturing, technology, or infrastructure sector is a plus
Track record of securing fiscal incentives for factory expansion or foreign direct investment
Experience with bilateral trade councils (US-Mexico Council or similar)
Education & Certifications
Bachelor's degree in law, International Relations, Diplomacy, International Business, 10+ years of related work experience in government affairs or lobbying in Mexico
Master's degree in public policy, International Relations, or related field preferred
Language Requirements
Fluent in Spanish (native level)
Professional proficiency in English required
