ROLE SUMMARY
The OIM has responsibility for the operational safety, efficiency, production and client
relations of the drilling unit. The responsibility of the OIM is to provide onboard leadership
and direction for meeting the customers drilling program requirements within Fontis Energy’s
programs, policies and procedures.
JOB SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
• Supervise and oversee all drilling, marine, and maintenance operations, ensuring
adherence to safety and efficiency standards.
• Plan, execute, and monitor rig activities, including repairs, maintenance of drilling
fluids, rigging up or down, and logistics.
• Supervise and monitor rig positioning, anchor mooring, preloading, and leg
penetration during rig movement and placement.
• Ensure optimal use and maintenance of rig and support equipment, avoiding
unnecessary damage or misuse.
• Conduct daily operational meetings with key personnel to coordinate work and
maintain productivity.
• Support and execute orders from Fontis, particularly during adverse weather
conditions and emergency situations.
• Order and manage necessary rig supplies, parts, and materials to ensure continuous
operations.
• Communicate regularly with the Operator’s on-site representative to ensure alignment
of operational plans and expectations.
• Promote and maintain good relations with the client organization and other external
stakeholders.
• Ensure efficient and accurate reporting to Rig Manager regarding operational progress
and challenges.
• Act as the primary point of contact for customer service matters on the rig.
• Complete and maintain all necessary paperwork, records, and reports in an accurate
and timely manner.
• Ensure the rig operates within budget, controlling costs without compromising safety
and efficiency.
• Oversee catering staff to maintain proper hygiene, food quality, and accommodation
cleanliness.
• Ensure that drills and exercises involve the use of all types of lifesavings, firefighting,
and other emergency equipment and that they are conducted in accordance with
Company and Flag State regulatory requirements and coastal state requirements.
• Ensure the emergency response plan for the rig is understood by all Personnel onboard.
• Responsibility for their own personal safety and the safety of all those which fall
under their direct supervision.
• Any other matters as deemed necessary by Company Management.
QUALIFICATIONS
Preferably a bachelor's degree: Hight school degree or equivalent experience.
USCG MODU OIM License (Unrestricted, Surface Units Underway or Surface Units on
Location) or actively working towards an Unrestricted License.
Years of experience: minimum of 2 years of experience as an OIM.
Skills/abilities:
Strong technical expertise in drilling operations and support equipment.
Knowledge of marine environmental and hazardous material regulations and procedures.
Experience in offshore marine operations and industrial environments.
Strong leadership, communication, and management skills.
Ability to handle multiple tasks effectively and follow up on all assignments to completion.
Proficiency in office software and company proprietary systems.
Commitment to personnel development, training, and mentorship.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make decisive, informed decisions in high-pressure
situations.
Excellent customer service skills to manage interactions with various department heads.
