Engine Department – Cruise Ship Positions Positions: Engine Cadet / Motorman (Sailor) | 3rd Engineer | 2nd Engineer | 1st Engineer | Chief Engineer
Position Overview We are recruiting Engine Department professionals for cruise ship operations , responsible for the operation, maintenance, and safety of all mechanical, electrical, and technical systems onboard.
These roles ensure the vessel runs efficiently and safely, supporting all hotel and navigation operations in a highly technical and safety-critical environment .
⚙️ Key Responsibilities Engine Cadet / Sailor (Motorman / Oiler) Assist engineers with daily engine room operations
Support maintenance of machinery, engines, and equipment
Perform cleaning, lubrication, and basic repairs
Monitor equipment and report irregularities
Follow safety procedures and participate in drills
3rd Engineer Assist in operation and maintenance of engine room systems
Monitor machinery, generators, and auxiliary systems
Perform routine inspections and maintenance tasks
Maintain logs and report technical issues
Support safe and efficient engine room operations
2nd Engineer Supervise daily engine room operations and maintenance schedules
Oversee junior engineers and engine ratings
Ensure machinery operates safely and efficiently
Coordinate repairs, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance
Maintain technical documentation and compliance
1st Engineer (Chief Engineer Deputy / Senior Engineer) Support the Chief Engineer in managing all technical operations
Oversee engine room teams and system performance
Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and operational standards
Monitor fuel consumption, efficiency, and system performance
Assist in planning maintenance and technical operations
Chief Engineer Overall responsibility for all technical and engineering operations onboard
Manage engine department personnel and structure
Ensure safe, efficient operation of all machinery and systems
Oversee maintenance, repairs, and technical planning
Ensure compliance with international maritime regulations
Manage budgets, spare parts, and technical inventory
Coordinate with Captain and senior officers on vessel operations
Work Environment Cruise ships (engine room and technical areas)
High-risk,
safety-critical environment
Multinational crew and structured hierarchy
Working Conditions Rotational contracts
Long working hours and shift-based schedules
Physically demanding and technically intensive work
Exposure to heat, noise, and machinery environments
Required Documents CV in English (Harvard format)
Valid passport
Seafarer documentation (Seaman’s Book)
Certifications (STCW & Maritime Requirements) Depending on role, candidates must hold valid certifications such as:
STCW Basic Safety Training
Seafarer Medical Certificate
Engine Officer Certificate of Competency (CoC)
Engine Officers Officer of the Watch (Engine) / EOOW
Advanced Fire Fighting (AFF)
Proficiency in Survival Craft & Rescue Boats (PSCRB)
Senior Roles 2nd Engineer / Chief Engineer License (Unlimited or relevant class)
High Voltage Certification (preferred)
Environmental & safety compliance training
️ Language English: B1–B2 minimum (B2–C1 for senior roles)

Requirements:

Eligibility Minimum age: 18+
Valid seafarer profile and ability to work at sea
Experience Engine Cadet / Sailor (Motorman / Oiler)
Basic maritime training or technical background
Entry-level or minimum 6–12 months experience in mechanical/engine environments
3rd Engineer
Valid EOOW (Engine Officer of the Watch) license
Minimum 1–3 years sea-time experience as junior engineer
2nd Engineer
Valid 2nd Engineer License
Minimum 3–5 years experience in engine operations
Previous supervisory experience required
1st Engineer (Senior Engineer)
Valid 1st Engineer / Chief Engineer (limited) license
Minimum 5–8 years progressive experience
Strong leadership and system management experience
Chief Engineer
Valid Chief Engineer Unlimited License
Minimum 8–12+ years experience in maritime engineering
Proven experience in senior leadership roles onboard
Ship Experience ⚠️ Mandatory for all officer roles
Not required for cadet level, but considered an advantage
Certifications (Mandatory) STCW Basic Safety Training
Seafarer Medical Certificate
Seaman’s Book / Discharge Book
Engine Officers & Above EOOW Certification
Advanced Fire Fighting (AFF)
Proficiency in Survival Craft & Rescue Boats (PSCRB)
Senior Roles 2nd / 1st / Chief Engineer Certificates of Competency
High Voltage Certification (preferred / often required)
Environmental and safety compliance training
Skills Strong knowledge of engine room operations and systems

Ability to work under pressure in technical environments
