Individuals at this level normally have a college degree with a major in accounting or a business field. These individuals will have zero to three years’ experience which may include an internship. The expectations of a Staff Accountant in Tax include:
- Become familiar with firm policies and procedures
- Understand the rules, regulations and code of professional conduct of the AICPA
- Exhibit (or develop) skills and characteristics delineated in the Firm’s Evaluation Forms




- Become familiar with pertinent IRC sections and regulations
- Obtain a working knowledge of research techniques and the various research sources in the firm library
- Become proficient in the preparation of corporate, individual, partnership, fiduciary, and other tax returns prepared by the firm
- Assume responsibility for the completion of tax returns under the supervision of more experienced staff

Essential Functions:
- Prepare individual, corporate and partnership tax returns of varying complexities
- Perform services within budgeted time by developing technical, time management and organizational skills
- Become knowledgeable about all the computer software used in the tax department
- Assist in the preparation of quarterly and year-end estimates
- Draft response letter to IRS and state notices when needed
- Make adjusting entries and complete a trial balance in order to prepare business returns
- Perform account
